SUPSKATE is a registered US trademark for skate poling gear which was created by Don Sandusky, owner of Hamboards, which manufacturers of deep-lean longboard skateboards made by surfers for surfers. In cooperation with endurance athletes and enthusiasts, since 2012 Don has been inventing, improving and tinkering with designs to evolve the skate poles from garage-hobby and home made concepts into engineered sports gear.

In the early days of Hamboards, the Street Sweeper "land paddle" was added as a way to help more people have fun riding Hamboards which require advanced balance. The Street Sweeper was introduced to the public, by Don on ABC's hit TV show "Shark Tank" Season 5 Epsisode 4 in October 2023. Over time, the Street Sweeper skate pole became more than an accessory to Hamboards and has been adopted by a much broader audience of skateboard riders because it gave riders a way to propel themselves without having to foot push. This BLOG explains why the new SUPSKATE brand was introduced. This BLOG offers an overview of the Skate Poling sport with references to some of the sports pioneers and the lingo commonly used by the participants. Skate Poling has gone by many generic names over the years including Skate SUP, Street SUP, Land Paddling, but Skate Poling seems to be the most universally accepted term.
