Orhero Mathias Iroro[1], also spelt as Mathais, is a Nigerian born poet, playwright, programmer, and scholar from the Niger Delta region. He is among the upcoming poets in Nigeria and his works have appeared on notable publications and websites. He hails from Okpara Inland in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State Nigeria[2]. He holds a B.A Degree in English(Second Class Upper) and best graduation student in the class of 2013. He is a scholar in Literary studies and English language. Some of his essays have been published especially on scribd[3] . His research areas include Modern African Literature, Creative Writing, Morphology, amongst others within the rubric of linguistic or literary studies[4]. Among the publications which his poem has entered, notable among them is 'Abraka Voices' Vol 3[5] and Echoes from the Niger Delta. He is also a playwright who is experimental in this contemporary age of drama. His major influences are poets such as John Keats, William Wordsworth, W.B. Yeats, Thomas Wyatt, John Donne, Lenrie Peters, J.P. Clark, Kofi Awoonor Williams, Frank Parkes, Niyi Osundare, Tanure Ojaide, amongst others.His poetry examine a mythopoeic and personal vision of life, the self and solitude. Orhero Mathais Iroro reflects the contemporary spirit and temper of contemporary times through his poetry. As a young poet, he has been able to use idealization to express his messages. Themes of mysticism can be seen in his poetry.[6]
