Originally released on the "Stereo Gold Award Recordings" Label.

The Album[edit]

It features a symphonic suite of music composed by John Williams for Steven Spielberg's 1977 movie "Close Encounters of The Third Kind". This studio-album was performed by the "National Philharmonic Orchestra" and recorded at the now-defunct CTS studios, Wembley, London. As was standard practice at the time, the album producer hired the John Williams' orchestrations as well as the session orchestra specifically for the album. The composer was not present at the recording.

The album also includes some musical compositons not attached to any film but reflecting a "space theme" concept. These selections were written by an assortment of composers (not Williams) and the styles vary from orchestral -"Orion" to ambient -"P.O.B. 734 and "Sky Ride", utilizing the-then contemporary synthesised sound. The credited composers are A.Bunny, Paul Fishman and J. Johnson. The orchestral sessions were conducted by Frank Barber. Produced by Paul Fishman. Sound Engineer was Richard Goldblatt.[1]

The LP has yet to be released in CD format.
