Florida Panhandle Coast[edit]

US 98 enters Florida from a bridge from Lillian, Alabama over Perdido Bay to Paradise Beach

US 98 finally enters the City of Pensacola after the intersection of Escambia CR 453 (West Street) where it merges onto West Cervantez Street, which is also the name of a local street west of CR 453. Eight blocks later, US 90 encounters the intersection of U.S. Route 90 and Florida State Road 292, and US 98 moves from a concurrency with SR 292 to one with US 90. Together US 90 & 98 run through the heart of Pensacola. Among the intersections they share are with U.S. Route 29 where West Cervantez Street becomes East Cervantez Street. But US 29 has been overshadowed by a partial interchange with Interstate 110 at Exit 2. Two to three blocks later it encounters southbound Florida State Road 291 along Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive (formerly Alcaniz Street), and northbound SR 291 along Davis Street). Four blocks later, the US 90/98 concurrency ends at the intersection with Florida State Road 289, where US 90 continues along Cervantes Street and runs along the northern panhandle towards Tallahassee, Lake City, and Jacksonville Beach, while US 98 turns south towards the Pensacola Bay Bridge.

At-grade interchange with Florida State Road 87 and shortly after this the Navarre Beach Causeway

Fort Walton Beach

Florida State Road 85 and one block later, one of two routes in the state designated as Florida State Road 145.

John T. Brooks Bridge

West of Santa Rosa Beach, signs pointing to Topsail Hill Preserve State Park precede the western terminus of Walton County Road 30A

Point Washington State Forest

The otherwise unimportant intersection with Walton County Road 83 is actually the beginning of an overlap with a hidden state road for the next intersection which is the southern terminus of US 331

Deer Lake State Park

Watersound, northeast of the Camp Creek Golf Club, and then through Inlet Beach where it encounters the east end of Walton County Road 30A

Camp Helen State Park, then crosses a bridge over Phillips Inlet north of Powell Lake.

Laguna Beach

About 2 miles (3.2 km) to the east of the eastern terminus of the Point Washington State Forest segment of SR 30A, and 1 mile (1.6 km) west of Hollywood Beach (not to be confused with the city of Hollywood between Miami and Fort Lauderdale), US 98 and (unsigned) SR 30 separate. While SR 30 continues along the shore of the Gulf of Mexico as Front Beach Road, US 98 continues roughly 1 mile (1.6 km) inland (as Panama City Beach Parkway) with the unsigned FDOT designation SR 30A.

After the Panama City Beach Fire-Rescue Station #1, the Panama City Beach Visitors Information Center can be found on the southwest corner with Florida State Road 79.

The Panama City Beach segment ends 16 miles (26 km) from the western terminus, as traffic on US 98/SR 30A rejoins SR 30 on the approach to the Hathaway Bridge crossing over Saint Andrews Bay and entering Panama City.

In a section of the city once known as Saint Andrews, US 98 runs between Gulf Coast State College and the Panama City Port Authority.[1] The end of this vicinity is also the shared intersection of Florida State Road 368 and the first at-grade crossing of the main line of the former Atlanta and Saint Andrews Bay Railway. At Brown Avenue, the route becomes part of West 18th Street. East of Deer Avenue, US 98 turns southeast no longer part of West 18th Street. SR 30 and US 98 separate at the intersection with Beck Avenue, which serves as the western termini of US Business Route 98 and Florida State Road 390. US 98 and SR 30A continues southeastward where it curves back east joining 15th Street, and runs along that street through much of the city. A second A&SAB crossing can be found between Balboa Avenue and Wood Avenue, the latter of which is across from a Florida Division of Forestry office.

A northwest connecting spur leads to northbound U.S. Route 231, and the third A&SAB crossing runs parallel to this before US 98 intersects US 231 itself at Harrison Avenue.

The next major intersection is with Florida State Road 77, also known as Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard, and formerly known as North Cove Avenue.

Fourth and final A&SAB crossing

Springfield

before a southward 90-degree turn onto North Tyndall Parkway in Callaway. Tyndall Parkway becomes the eastern terminus of Bay CR 28. Further south along this segment it crosses a power line right-of-way north of Seventh Street and then intersects with Florida State Road 22. From there, the road enters Callaway

Boat Race Road

Parker

At-grade interchange with US Business Route 98, where hidden State Road 30 rejoins the route, Two block later, the road crosses over the Great Lagoon, and curves to the southwest along Long Point.

As US 98/SR 30 approaches the New DuPont Bridge across East Bay, its 11-mile (18 km) run ends with the merge with Business US 98/SR 30 near Long Point.

The last intersection in Parker is Oakshore Drive which leads to a boat ramp is the last intersection before the routes cross the Du Pont Bridge across East Bay, and the road curves from southwest to southeast. The road takes another southeast turn as it passes by the southern edges of Tyndall Air Force Base. Beyond the entrances of the air force base, the road narrows down from a four-lane divided highway to a two-lane undivided one through the territory of the base itself, running through wooded territory obstructing activities on the base. Shortly after leaving air force land, the route runs through the northern edges of Mexico Beach

Bay County Road 386, and immediately crosses the Bay-Gulf County Line thus leaving the Central Time Zone and entering the Eastern Time Zone, as well as the community of Saint Joe Beach

At some point, the road curves inland where a former segment of US 98 is clearly visible.[2] During this curve a rest area for bicyclists can be found on the south side of the road.

Intersects Fifth Street and Cecil G. Costins, Senior Boulevard, the latter of which is the southern terminus of Florida State Road 71

The route moves away from the coast again, turning east as it intersects the northwestern terminus of Florida State Road 30A

Apalachicola Regional Airport, then officially enters Apalachicola

US 98/SR 30 turns right from Avenue E to Market Street subsequently joining the Big Bend Scenic Coast Byway Coastal Trail.[3] Once the road passes the old Franklin County Courthouse it climbs the approach to the John Gorrie Memorial Bridge over the Apalachicola River

The concurrency with U.S. Route 319 in Florida begins at the eastern end of the John Gorrie Memorial Bridge over the Apalachicola River and both routes run along a causeway at the mouth of the Apalachicola Bay as they enter Eastport. The first intersection in the community is North and South Bayshore Road, but a major intersection can be found in the form of Florida State Road 300 across from a local street named Norvelle Street.

Florida State Road 65, which like SR 300 has it's own leg of the Big Bend Scenic Coast Byway Forest Trail.[4]

Carrabelle, Florida

Franklin County Road 67

US 319 splits from US 98 along with another leg of the Big Bend Scenic Coast Byway Forest Trail.

Ochlockonee Bay Bridge

In Sopchoppy, US 98 briefly meets up with US 319 once more, before parting ways again and running north through Crawfordville, into Tallahassee in Leon County, while US 98 turns east.

Wakulla County Road 365

Crosses a bridge over the Wakulla River, then passes north of Saint Mark's (San Marcos), where it encounters a pedestrian crossing with the St. Mark's Historic Railroad State Trial and the blinker light intersection at Florida State Road 363

St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge

Florida State Road 267 and then crosses the George Nesmith Bridge over the St. Marks River. Upon descending from the bridge, the road encounters Wakulla CR 59, and the Big Bend Scenic Byway Coastal Trail departs from US 98 to run along that county road to the Gulf of Mexico. In the meantime, CR 59 joins US 98/SR 30 as a hidden route.
