DMX (dee-em-x) Syndrome, also known as continuity-paralysis, affects 2.3 million individuals every year. Classified as a behavioral health disorder, DMX Syndrome is characterized by a sense of obligation to complete a task even if it is no longer enjoyable.

The name originated from popular 90s rapper Earl Simmons, better known as DMX. While his early albums are critically acclaimed, his music career began to take a steep decline after his third studio album. In a 2004 study, an astounding 84% DMX fans said that his new music was no longer enjoyable but they felt a duty to listen to newly released material. The study was repeated in 2015 by the ICDC College of Behavorial Health with similar results.

DMX Syndrome has since been applied to other areas including television shows, job assignments, personal relationships and consumer consumption.

In January of 2018, Farmer's Almanac released the first Top 10 list for DMX Syndrome. Viewers of the TV show Walking Dead were the most likely to suffer from the chronic condition (22.5% of all diagnosis) while New York Mets fans were a close second. (20.9%)

To date there is no cure for the syndrome. It is not known to alter life expectancy at this time.
