Hi! My name is Jack.

Wikipedia contributions[edit]

So far, none, save for reverting a couple pages that had been vandalized. I've only very recently registered, and I hope to gradually make more and more contributions to Wikipedia. My contributions.

About me[edit]

I'm a 19-year old male. I live alternately in San Francisco with my family and at Stanford where I will soon be a Sophomore. I am multi-racial: my mother is Chinese and is from Hong Kong, while my father is part-French and part-German, and is from New Jersey. I have a brother who is 3.5 years younger than I. I was born in Hong Kong on November 8, 1986, but in 1995, my family moved to the United States.

Abilities, interests, and quirks[edit]

I can read and write a little bit of Mandarin Chinese, but not much -- I've completed second-year college level Chinese. I also know a little Latin; I completed AP Latin in high school. I'm interested in astrophysics, philosophy of mind, philosophy of meaning, ethics, epistemology, entheogens, meditation, environmental issues, and animal rights. I love the ocean, the stars, and dancing. I am nearly a vegan -- primarily because I find factory farming to be appalling -- but I do not think that eating honey, clams, oysters or shrimp is morally problematic, so I do consume these items on occasion. I was raised Catholic but have considered myself to be an atheist since I was 16. Politically, I'm a libertarian on social issues, but I tend to lean Left on economic issues. My favorite author is, without question, Dr. Seuss.

Future goals[edit]

Right now, I want to get a Ph. D in Physics, but I may want to switch to Philosophy or Computer Science. I want to improve my Chinese, and spend some time in China. I have never visited Europe and would like to go there. I would like to also be an effective activist for animals and convince others that we have ethical duties to other sentient beings and that the status quo is enormously unjust.
