Seán Hackett (born December 1978) is a Real Estate Litigator by profession and president of the Provincial Council of Britain GAA.
Personal Life
He was born in Lisburn, County Antrim, the fifth of eleven children to parents Philomena Hackett (nee Slevin) and John Hackett.
His mother was from Dromore Middle, Clogher, County Tyrone and father was from Eskra and then Glencull, County Tyrone.
His parents were heavily involved with the GAA which influenced his and his siblings sporting choices.
His father playing for Ballygawley (now Errigal Ciaran) whilst living in Tyrone and St Patrick's whist living in Lisburn. His father held the posts of treasurer, secretary and chairperson of St Patrick's GAC during the 1970's and served as County delegate to the Antrim County Board. His father was trainer and manager of the St Patrick's club during the mid 1970's.
His family moved to Glencull when he was four and he attended as a pupil at St Malacys Primary School where his father had attended as a pupil. He joined Ballygawley GAC (now Errigal Ciaran) and entered the youth ranks of the football club winning the Under 14 Tyrone County League.
In 1990 he attended St Ciarans High School (now St Ciarans College) and in 1996 he became deputy head boy and was part of the team which lost out to Castlewellan in the Ulster Final of the Markey Cup.
Emigration
In 1997 he emigrated to Liverpool to study law at John Moores University.
He joined the John Mitchells GAC and became vice chairperson in 1998.
He won Lancashire Junior and Senior Championship titles with John Mitchells and an All Britain title with Liverpool JMU in 1998 and 2000 respectively. He was part of the team defeated by Sligo IT in the semi finals of the 2000 Trench Cup.
He graduated in 2000 with an LLB honours degree and moved to Manchester to continue his post graduate studies at Manchester Metropolitan University. He joined the St Lawrence GAC with whom he would win his second Lancashire Senior Championship title and the Crewe & Alsager University team.
