Penny Reid is a Seattle-based best-selling author of romance novels.[1][2] She has written thirty-eight full-length novels, of which several have reached the New York Times and Wall Street Journal best seller lists.[3][4]

Reid self-published her first "smart-romance" novel, Neanderthal Seeks Human[5][6] in 2013, which together with her subsequent books, has received tens of thousands of reviews on the Amazon-owned social network/book cataloging website, Goodreads.[7]

Reid built on the success of the Winston Brothers series to launch the publishing imprint, Smartypants Romance[2], in which other authors write books set in the same fictional universe.[6] Hope Ellis' Before and After You is one example of the many romance novels that have been published by Smartypants Romance.[8][9] Reid's collaborative approach to the self-publishing space stands in direct contrast to the by other self-published authors to trademark certain words that may crop up in book titles by several authors.[10]

In 2022, Reid's Winston Brothers series was reported as being adapted for streaming/television.[6]
