David Reed (Dave) Cutler born December 28, 1959 is a software support executive.

Personal history[edit]

Dave Cutler was born in Ogden, Utah, and moved to Poughkeepsie, NY at age 5, Bountiful, Utah at age 7, and San Jose, California at age 11 when his father was transferred by IBM. At age 15, his first summer job was picking pineapples on Maui after which his family moved back to Bountiful, Utah. After graduating from BYU in 1984, Cutler ran several entrepeneurial endeavors including door-to-door insulation sales, travel agency, & stucco company. In 1988 he met and married Kathleen Button in Phoenix, Arizona.

For 22 years from 1989 to 2011, Cutler held a variety of service management positions at Novell, Inc. in Utah, San Jose and Japan under all five CEOs - Ray Noorda, Bob Frankenberg, Eric Schmidt, Jack Messman, & Ron Hovsepian. At age 40 he was promoted to Vice President of Global Customer support where he served for 11 years. He made improvements to all aspects of technical support including Service Account Management for key customers and building new support centers in India and Prague. Under Cutler, Novell Technical Support Centers became SCP certified in 2005, won the 2007 HDI "Team Excellence" award, and entered the Association of Support Professionals (ASP) Hall of Fame by being recognized among“Ten Best Web Support Sites”for four consecutive years 2007-2010. Cutler attended the Harvard Business School General Manager Program in 2008. He left Novell when it was acquired by The Attachmate Group in 2011 and joined Venafi as Vice President of Customer Support & Product Training.

Cutler has served on the boards of the following organizations:

  • Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce (2006 chairman)
  • Timpanogos Hospital
  • Utah Technology Council
  • Lone Peak Hospital

Cutler enjoys boating at Lake Powell, skiing at Alta, collecting movies & books.
