Drexel drive is named after Katharine Drexel. Katharine Drexel is a Mother. Drexel was born into wealth and was given the opportunity to fight for African Americans and Native Americans. She based her whole life of contributing and fighting justice for minorities. Drexel biggest accomplishment is fighting justice regardless of race that every man and woman will have access to education. Drexel has provided and seeked justice to those in need across the U.S. She has fought a lot of educational policies that prohibits African Americans and minorities for attending school. Drexel has helped so many people overcome prejudice to discrimination just for a education. Drexel beliefs were what way to provide equal opportunities is through education. Drexel has spent 11 million dollars over the years to provide catholic school and churches funding to even paying African American teachers their true wages. Katharine Drexel has sacrificed a lot to make sure that every race has an equal opportunity to learn christ and education all in one setting. Katharine Drexel had a lot of adversities along the route of paying for land and even the placement of schools. Drexel was determined and til this day her legacy continues because she helps build students to create " more just and humane society". [1]

Xavier University of Louisiana was founded in October 12,1925. It used to be named Palmetto Street or the address used to be 1755 Palmetto Street and it's currently 1 Drexel Drive . Xavier University Of Louisiana is of one Katharine Drexel biggest accomplishments. Xavier University of Louisiana is the only Catholic Historically Black College or University. Xavier University of Louisiana has history of producing the most African American doctors in the U.S. Xavier follows the mission "to create a more just and humane society". [2]The faculty and staff instill that into their students through their rigorous curriculum for every major. Xavier builds and equipes their students to be the best version of themselves and to give back to the community.

Geography[edit]

Drexel Drive 1 mile long. The street runs as long Palmetto street to South Claiborne Avenue. The street is 4 ft below sea level.[3]The sidewalks along Drexel Drive is slightly cracked or uneven due to years or erosion and hurricanes. In August 2005, Hurricane Katrina left Drexel Drive was completely under water. The street is smooth and has minor cracks and potholes.Drexel Drive is near University Center , Administration Building, and Music Building.
