Concepcion Uno is a barangay in Marikina City. With a population of 39,204 in 2010, it is the 4th most populous barangay in Marikina and the 7th densest (18,405 km2).

History[edit]

Formerly known as the Bayanbayanan (little town), Barangay Concepcion, like the old Marikina boondocks, was a rich agricultural area. Over time, though, new settlers found promise in its rich soil and migrants started to cultivate public lands, followed by the emergence of new communities.

The barangay was officially named Concepcion after Mary the Immaculate Conception on June 6, 1936 with the enactment of Republic Act No. 1541. As an organized community, Marcelino de Guzman was installed as the first barangay leader in 1903 and held the post for five years.

On June 11, 1978, President Ferdinand Marcos signed Presidential Decree No. 1488, which divided the barangay to two ones, Concepcion Uno today and Concepcion Dos. The first election for the barangay of Concepcion Dos was held on July 4, 1978, with lawyer Butch Crisol (1978–1980) elected as the first punong barangay.
