Atlantis Events, Inc. is a cruise and tour company catering exclusively to gay men and women. It was founded in 1991 to provide a way for gay friends to vacation together without fear of judgment or ridicule. Since that time, it has grown to produce at least ten all-gay cruises per year on some of the largest ships in the world and numerous land-based all-gay resort vacations.

Cruises[edit]

Atlantis cruises are among the most well-known and well-attended gay vacations in the world. The company charters entire passenger ships for its cruises, allowing a complete takeover of the ships' entertainment line-up, facilities, and other elements.

Dance Parties[edit]

Among the most well-attended events aboard an Atlantis cruise are the nightly (and sometimes afternoon or morning) dance parties. Each comes with a theme announced a few weeks before the cruise and guests are encouraged to dress up for the occasion. Though the themes change with every cruise, they tend to follow the following general pattern for a seven day cruise:

Afternoon Tea Dances[edit]

A typical seven-day Atlantis cruise has three day-time dances, held for just two hours immediately before dinner.

Theme Usual Day Description
Dog Tag First sea day after embarkation A military theme where each guest is encouraged to wear a dog tag with color-coded stickers. One red sticker signifies that the guest is "taken;" a yellow sticker indicates the guest is open to conversation or having a drink; a green sticker indicates the guest is "available;" and two or more green stickers indicate that the guest is looking for sex at that very moment. This dance always occurs on day two of a seven-day cruise.
Sun Varies This theme can vary from merely a tropical or Caribbean theme to a wet water gun party.
Disco Final sea day This dance always occurs on the final sea day of a seven-day cruise. Guests wear 1970s-themed costumes and the music fits the theme.

Evening Dances[edit]

A typical Atlantis cruise has a different dance party every night of the cruise. These dances typically begin at 11pm and last nominally until about 3am but often continue past sunrise. The following themes are seen on nearly every cruise with some variation.

Theme Usual Night Description
Set Sail First There is no official theme for this party. Guests often wear apparel specific to their home towns, underwear, or nothing in particular.
Cruise-Specific Varies There will often be a dance with a costume theme that is cruise-specific, either stemming from the departure city (e.g., a New York-themed party for a cruise departing from New York), current events, or a recent popular culture event (e.g., a Star Wars themed party following the recent release of The Force Awakens).
Light/Glow Varies Another staple dance party is the light or glow party. Guests' costumes are often made up of glowing, blinking, or other light-emitting or light-reflecting materials.
Classics Varies This party's music includes top 40 songs from the 1980s to early 2000s remixed as heavy dance anthems. It carries no costume theme (though guests will often dress in costumes to match the music).
Dance Varies This party's music includes classic dance anthems and new remixes. It carries no costume theme.
White Penultimate This dance party is always on the second-to-last night of the cruise and guests are encouraged to wear costumes in all white.
Last Dance Final This is a smaller dance party, usually in a smaller indoor venue. There is no costume theme.

In 2007, Atlantis acquired its direct competitor, RSVP Vacations. Since that time, Atlantis has kept RSVP as a separate and distinct brand, catering to a more relaxed group of guests.
