Riduna is the debut and only novel by Diana Jackson, published by Pegasus Elliot Mac Kenzie in May 2009, a romantic fiction set in the late nineteenth century. Diana Jackson is a teacher of literacy and business studies, who has her roots in the Channel Islands. In fact her great grandmother, an Alderney girl, has been her inspiration for writing, but she stresses that her first novel Riduna is fiction, with just a glimmer of truth. She chose the name Riduna, allegedly the latin name for Alderney, to conjure up the mystery and beauty of an island which she loves. With known family links still on Guernsey and with parents and grandparents brought up in the Woolston area of Southampton, Diana uses the novel to weave her tale of enduring love, tragedy, conflicting dreams and the dilemma and traumas of moving to worlds unknown. Although set in the past, many people today from different cultures and backgrounds, including the islanders themselves, may identify with these emotions, including the strong sense of community. Alternatively it may be the vivid descriptions of the islands which may evoke vivid memories.
