User:Discuss-Dubious/article influence

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wikipedia is not intended to be promotional, but even still, many companies wish to influence Wikipedia articles about themselves. Some fields are highly competitive, and you want your article to be perfect. However, it is not as simple as it appears to be to not be looked down upon.

Disclose affiliations[edit]

If you plan to have someone edit your article in-house, maybe it would be best for the contributor to act in a liaison role. Do not try to pretend you are not affiliated with the company. If we find out that you tried to do so, we will be more suspicious toward your positions in the future.

You are not allowed to have multiple people use one account.

Nobody owns articles[edit]

Wikipedia does not allow people to act in an owner-like way towards articles. A Wikipedia article can be edited by anyone.

Bring reliable sources for every claim you want to make.

Do not remove controversies from the articles you are editing; they are important if sourced and notable.

It would be perceived as suspicious for your liaison to edit articles about rivals, adding controversies or removing praise. It should be easy to avoid this at all costs. Not even as a sockpuppet.

Suggestions when starting articles=[edit]

Find as many reliable sources as possible you need and then, after writing your draft (maybe even before!), go to this conflict-of-interest noticeboard and seek assistance.

communicate![edit]

It would be wise for you to engage conversations on the talk page. You can explain your reasons (give logical, well-thought out arguments). If you are overruled, then don't try to stop what happened.
