Beth S. Benedict is a professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Gallaudet University^[1]. Her research focuses on early intervention, early language acquisition, and family involvement.^[2] Dr. Benedict is also an advocate for the use of bilingualism and the use of spoken English and more importantly ASL.^[3]

Education[edit]

Benedict received her bachelors of arts degree in psychology from Gallaudet University in 1980. From there she attended New York University to pursue a masters degree in communications, which she finished in 1981. After some time Benedict returned to Gallaudet University to work on a doctorate degree in Education, which she then completed in 2003. Cite error: A <ref> tag is missing the closing </ref> (see the help page).. Beth Benedict was the Deaf person of the month in April of 2010 ^[4]. Benedict has held many prestigious positions, including being the current president of the American Society for Deaf Children.^[5]. Beth Benedict also received the prestigious Antonia Brancia Maxon Award for EHDI Excellence. The presentation of this awards at the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention conference in Chicago, Illinois she also won numerous other awards.^[6].
