Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas is an Indian politician and the president of Welfare Party of India.[1][self-published source?] He is a member of Central Advisory Council of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind[2][self-published source?] and he was convener of a Babri Masjid Coordination Committee.[3]

Early life and education[edit]

SQR Ilyas was born on 18 November 1953 in Amaravati, Maharashtra, and later settled in Delhi. He completed MSc. and Ph.D. in chemistry from Nagpur University.[citation needed]

Political career[edit]

He started his political career through Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and he became the national president. Years after he left SIMI, it was banned by government of India for terrorist activities[4]. During the 1980s, when Welfare Party of India was founded, he was elected as the general secretary. He is contesting in the upcoming parliament election from Jangipur Constituency in West Bengal.[5]
