There's lot of editors on here who put in more actual content on a daily basis than I do on average, Aymatth2, Cwmhiraeth, Peter I. Vardy, Kaayay, Ipigott, Ramblersen for starters. I often produce what I term "The Jimbo effect", and I don't mean civility preaching. By that of course I mean that people generally think you contribute more content on a daily basis than you actually do, yet you're around. I think a lot of people would be deceived into thinking that Jimbo built most of the encyclopedia himself! I might get one day a week where I really contribute some serious material, it's very difficult to block out what goes on on here and have the motivation to focus purely on adding a wealth of content to the encyclopedia every day. I try to block it out as much as I can, but when I see seasoned contributors like Cassianto treated like that and leaving it really is something of a motivation killer.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:26, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

Small King Lear tidbit for you[edit]

Hello DB. I am watching the second season of Shakespeare Uncovered. The episode about King Lear had some clips from King Lear (1971 USSR film) which were fascinating. Sadly they didn't show any clips from Ran (film). While thinking about AK's version I remember an interesting coincidence. The makeup and wig that Tatsuya Nakadi wore was similar (very IMO) to that worn by Sir (Albert Finney) in the film version of The Dresser. Now I don't think AK was copying that film, but, as TD was released in 83 and R in 85 I remember being stuck by the similarities at the time. Forgot to mention the sad news of Geraldine McEwan's passing. She didn't have a large presence in films (her brief appearance in Branagh's Henry V was excellent) but I think her TV role as MIss Jean Brodie ranks with Maggie Smith's and her Lucia (Mapp and Lucia) set a standard that, I hope, Anna Chancellor is living up to. Thankyou MD. Yes I was impressed with the director's The Overcoat which I saw only the other week, shot of course almost 50 years before King Lear! I'd read that he had some great Shakespearean-based films and have made a mental note to try to see his films sometime. I think I've seen bits of The Dresser but that was a long time ago and don't recall seeing the whole film. Even films I saw a few years ago they might be worth watching again anyway as my viewing has matured since then, I saw Top Hat again yesterday for instance and loved it!! Swing Time I still think the plot is rather weak but enjoyed it more now, partly perhaps because I've developed a crush on Ginger Rogers! Mansi Township[edit]

Hello, Doc! You created the {{Mansi Township}} template in 2010, and I created the Gasha disambiguation just now. The template contains an entry leading to "Gasha", so I wanted to add it to the dab and fix the link accordingly. However, I have no idea what all those entities in the template are. Am I right to assume they are all populated places in that township? Would you be so kind as to correct the link so it no longer points to the disambig, please? About your (non)participation in the January 2012 SOPA vote[edit]

Hi. I am Piotr Konieczny (User:Piotrus), you probably know me as an active content creator (see my userpage), but I am also a professional researcher of Wikipedia. Recently I published a paper (downloadable here) on reasons editors participated in Wikipedia's biggest vote to date (January 2012 WP:SOPA). Thanks for passing it, doc. I will open a peer review in a week's time after I have expanded the article further. One thing — In the FAC review of Chandralekha, Bollyjeff said that he did not want to see Behindwoods.com in the article. Here there are around 35-40 references from Behindwoods.com. I'd take it to the reliable sources board for wider input. It does sound like a non RS, but I've seen it in numerous articles ad didn't question it. I'd personally consider it a reliable source for Tamil film as it's affiliated with the Times of India which is one of the most reputable Indian sources. And we have an article on it of course. There's quite an argument to support keeping it as a source then. You said something about expanding it further though. I don't think that's a good idea. I was thinking that it would have to be given a considerable cut before going to FAC as it's already 166kb, which is pretty massive. @Bollyjeff: At that time, the website was starting to develop. But now, it has its own awards ceremony called "Behindwoods Gold Medal Awards". It has been going on for the past two years (2013 and 2014). You can learn about the awards ceremony here. I'm afraid I don't think that's a good idea Nvv. I'm not DYK orientated any more, I tend to focus on just a couple nowadays. I have some books I need to be cracking on with for GA too. I don't mind doing the occasional one though. Thankyou for your expansion of the Indian one. I'd rather stay out of that one Prashant. All I'll say, as I said recently at the SRK FAC, is that Bollywood articles in general I think tend to be more sugary than Hollywood ones. A large part of it I think is the film critic system in India where I strongly suspect that some of the reviewers, particularly ones like Taran Adarsh are paid to say those things or there is some sort of corruption involved in film reviewing. Threatening to delist a bunch of Krimuk's FA's because you disagree with him on Chopra though is a bit immature don't you think?♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:37, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Well, I just answered his questioned as according to him something, which is also present in his edited articles, is fluff. So I said If that is a fluff then, the same thing is present in your article. I just answered his question. I just want equality for all the articles. Either convert all Bollywood articles as Chopra's or Convert Chopra's like those female heroes and Cinema Legends, who have contributed much to Indian Cinema.—Prashant 10:27, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Re: Stork Club[edit]

There's more to add but I've been busy for the last few days uploading at Commons. I have quite a few news clippings set aside at Newspapers.com. There are 3 non-free photos in the article-the dining room, the Cub Room and the photo of some of the Stork Club's gifts. Have been thinking that one should probably go and that one should probably be the main dining room. Have my eye on a postcard sent out by the Club from the days when it had live entertainment. Billingsley dropped the entertainers and just kept a live band for a long time because he realized the real entertainment of the place was people coming out to be seen and people watching them. All in all, I think this would work now for GA; also think there might be enough to add to consider trying FA with it. This has been one of my projects for some time, as you can see by when I made my first edit to it :) We hope (talk) 22:19, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Let me get started with the re-wording. I have some clippings re: celebs that can be added. Question: re: sfn-what do you do went you call on the ref twice-is it ref name blah, sfn template and end ref close tag, or do you just simply list them as many times as needed? I'd searched for that information earlier and recently tried again but had no luck. I know there were other private rooms for parties as you see a "fleeting" reference to them, such as the Shermane Room, the Rheingold Room. The Rheingold Room has a non-free photo at Flickr and that's all I've seen about it. It may have been re-named at some point as it appears they may have paid to have the room named for the beer. While Fatima cigarettes was once a sponsor of the television show, there was a previous tie-up with Chesterfield. The club appeared in old print ads and some of the "non-classic" club ashtrays say "Chesterfield ashes only". I would believe Billingsley's youngest daughter, Sharmane, would have this in her possession, if it still exists, but haven't seen anything of it on the internet. Goodman Ace wrote comedy for a living and his style was subtle. His writings were mainly tounge in cheek. When the Milton Berle television program needed a big overhaul, Ace was hired to do the job to remove most to all of the slapstick from it because it was no longer producing ratings. Do you know anyone here with a Fold-3 subscription? This is a nice photo of Elliott Roosevelt and it appears to be from the Army Air Corps, which would put it in the public domain. I don't want to sign up for a subscription just for the photo because it takes it away from someone who works on military-related articles. photo. You have to have a subscription to download it. That sounds interesting! Another LA hotel that was but is no more was the Garden of Allah, and there are plenty of stories about it. I've never understood why it was necessary to tear it down; many people fought to try to preserve it but no use. We hope (talk) 22:10, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

Ah that's a pity, yes, I was amazed he was still alive, in fact I was wondering if he had somehow passed and it not reported. I think his best performance actually was in The Paradine Case but his best role has got to be Octopussy. I had a feeling it would be this year or the next! He was probably the suavest actor in any film I've seen, he was the living embodiment of wealth and status wasn't he! There's really not many Golden Hollywood stars left now. I know I mentioned it before but he was also my favorite Dracula. I was lucky enough to see him onstage back in the late 80s in a revival of Gigi where he was playing the role that Chevalier had played in the film. I don't think he did actually travel on a plane for the Hobbit, I thought they filmed his scenes in England, I might be wrong though. Not seen him in Dracula, I didn't like the 1958 film Gigi on first viewing, I found Chevalier irritating, but he's since grown on me so I may watch it again at some point. Jourdan was also particularly good in The VIPs. Your info about Lee makes sense. Yep LJ was excellent in the VIPs and Paradine. Here is his Count Dracula (1977 film) article. It came out on DVD several years ago over here - which is good as my VHS was fading away - but I don't know about its availability for you. Judi Bowker was good as Mina and Frank Finlay is superb has Van Helsing. Jack Shepherd's Renfield is one of the best I've seen. The only clunker is Richard Barnes' attempt at a Texas accent. I began going through Doris Day's filmo, I've reached around 1955 so far I think, haven't quite come to Julie yet which she did with Jourdan. I got distracted as ther'e so many others to watch haha! Actually in looking there's more Wilder films I haven't seen than I'd realised. Have just viewed the trailer--at the YouTube link provided by the uploader and at IMDB. Both are more recent copies, as they both were done to sell the film on home media. If you've viewed the trailer at somewhere other than Internet Archive (saying this because there are copies of trailers there with copyright notices removed)-at either TCM or IMDB, etc. and you see no notice, then it's in the public domain without question. If you viewed a trailer that was before 1964 and had a notice, then you would need to see if the film itself was renewed. If it wasn't, then the trailer is also PD. Saying this about IA because not long ago, we had trailer screenshots at a FLC that had to go. The Commons uploader viewed the trailer at IA. Not sure what the 1965/48 etc refers to or if that's really in the titles, but that was what was given on the DEFA bio entry on him. So what's the problem this time? I've sourced Mann this time around, which most people accept as a "legitimate" biography. Yes, it supports Bowers' statements, yes, it depicts Tracy as a bisexual, yes it portrays Hepburn as a likely lesbian, yes, it assumes the relationship between Tracy and Hepburn was exaggerated. Do you mean that this biography is by default also "trashy" because it supports statements made by the Bowers' reference? No, as they sort of cancel each other out! Most of the Hollywood actors at one time had a gay rumour or something reported about them and I'm sure most of us can well imagine that many of them at times strayed or did things when drunk. What would make it noteworthy and encyclopedic? Now somebody like Cary Grant, there's extensive coverage documenting the "Was he gay?" issue, not Tracy, at best it's one or two sensationalist writers or a writer agreeing with another that Tracy was bisexual. I just google book searched Spencer Tracy bisexual and it turned up one very brief mention in a book and a magazine comment saying "it's ridiculous". I know I am too deep in the history books![edit]

I just started working on Pocahontas (1910 film) and I found the play was adapted by Lloyd Lonergan from Lydia Sigourney's poem... which is strange because I have a half-finished article about the school she attended - East District School - at age 4. It is actually Sigourney's writings which helped me rectify the errors in the East District School (i.e. not built in 1798), but it is weird to have so many threads of history become inter-twinned. La Cabineta (?) and Ettington Park Hotel pictures[edit]

Good evening Dr. I hope your plans for total world control are going ok. Two wildly unrelated things, but which I believe you may have an interest in..
I recall seeing a Spanish short, it would have been early 80s, called I think La Cabineta. I assume that translate as "The box". A dark, deeply effective horror film, involving a killer telephone box. I remember the build up of impending doom and tension was wonderful, well shot and beautifully paced. Does it ring any bells? I wouldnt mind knocking something out covering it. Never thought about working in filmic subjects, but always a first time.
I stayed at Ettington Park Hotel in early 2006, with a long forgotten ex. I love good hotels. I have just remembered I took lots of good pics on my old mobile of the time, which I had completely forgotten about. I will dig it out and attempt to download them onto the PC. It cost over 2 grand for a week. Nice place, shame about the ex. But i'm not bitter. Dunno if you had any input into the Ettington article? Irondome (talk) 23:28, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

Doc, I think it would be, with expansion. There's the history of the house before it was turned into a hotel to build on and also more, if possible, on the filming of The Haunting there. If sources can be found for either or both of these, it shouldn't be a big problem to go to GA. There may also be some newspaper and magazine stories that would help us here. A couple of pics of the library, as I recall, and a couple of pics of what was said to be the best room in the hotel. It was split level. We got a lucky upgrade after extending our stay. The restuarant was amazing, idiot never took any pics, did he? Might have took a pic of the long gallery, cant quite recall. Food was amongst the best i've ever had, anywhere. Some outdoor shots, and a pic of that funky little ruined chapel in the grounds. They are on my old samsung 500, the slider type. Decent camera. I just sensed you would have had a hand in Ettington. See: Some good can come It involves a kindly offer by jbmurray to help Rationalobserver learn about evaluating sources for historical narrative writing, as she'd had brought up criticisms of "source integreity" on Talk:Saint Francis Receiving the Stigmata (van Eyck) and in various places about the same subject regarding Donner Party on multiple pages recently. I think everybody really needs to realise that ultimately most of us are here for the same reason, and anything which distracts us from building it is is merely a distraction. Rationalobserver certainly needs to avoid commenting on other editors so much and focus on content, which I think you can see from a few of her articles she's quite capable of writing. But most of us here at times should probably follow that advice and not let certain things get to us so much. I don't know Coffee, nor do I have anything personal against him, but if he has a habit of imposing blocks without thought and feels happy doing that then at times he's going to get a reaction and encounter difficulty. Admittedly I even thought his block of Knowledgekid was unwarranted in that particular instance, however annoying he often is. I didn't see him say anything I thought was grossly uncivil or blockable in that particular instance (unless I missed something); he's said things previously I thought were trolling and blockable and he wasn't even warned.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:39, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
