Khalid Nabi Cemetery[edit]

It looks as though everything in the AOL article about this cemetery is from the Globalpost article, so I don't see it as a separate source. Thanks for catching the 'phallic'. I'll be adding more from Stronach tomorrow. Dougweller (talk) 16:58, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

Is it? OK. My point I guess (not realizing initially that you'd already said and done it), was that there is enough mentioning of it as a phallic site to state that some claim it is one not that it is one and that it would be wrong to completely hide it. Thanks for showing an interest and making the appropriate edits. See a picture of it, one on the right especially I'm sure most guys looking at it would think it phallic... Catherine Zeta Jones recognizes this one from old man Douglas who just isn't quite as excitable as he used to be, and that's him on the big Vs too!... ;-] ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:01, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

Well, it's been giving me problems lately. I think the trouble is that an account under the username AlbertHerring does in fact exist on Wikipedia. So when I'm logging into the AlbertHerring account on Commons, I'm being logged into all AlbertHerring accounts everywhere. All I know is that I've been toggling between Commons and Wikipedia a lot lately thanks to Wiki Loves Monuments, and it's been destabilizing my account on one or the other. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 19:42, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Carballeda de Avia[edit]

The article Carballeda de Avia has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Notability

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. AnupMehra 18:04, 2 October 2013 (UTC)

Lack of content does not mean that it lacks notability. Did you try to look for sources to prove your claim User:Anupmehra?♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:11, 2 October 2013 (UTC)

@Blofeld:I do not see a reason why can't an article have both issues(or multiple issues). None of the sources available at first instance establish notability of the subject. And as per WP:WHYN, If only a few sentences could be written and supported by sources about the subject, that subject does not qualify for a separate page, but should instead be merged into an article about a larger topic or relevant list. I'm proding it again, please solve the raised concern(s) before you remove the tag again. AnupMehra 17:11, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

You're completely getting the wrong idea. A notable article will always be notable. A Spanish town, just look in google books. There you go, it passes GNG. If you want something expanded try asking! To dismiss an article as non notable purely because it's short is rather dumb don't you think? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:27, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: Zero source doesn't establish notability even of Barack Obama. Did you get it? If you've sources cite it in the article. Thanks! AnupMehra 09:12, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

Barack Obama article could be empty and unsourced, it wouldn't make him any less notable. A notable subject is notable independent of wikipedia on weight of coverage in reliable sources. The mere existence of an article on wikipedia doesn't decide the notability of an individual or subject. I could name countless subjects which are very notable but don't have wiki articles but the fact that they don't have content on wikipedia doesn't make a blind bit of difference to how notable they are. Confusing lack of content with lack of notability is one of the biggest mistakes made by people at AFD. If you simply did a google/google book search you can decide if a subject is notable regardless if the article is short on wikipedia. Most articles are still stubs on here, it doesn't mean they're not notable. If you don't understand this you really have no place editing wikipedia.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:16, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: Barack Obama was just an example not the president of USA. Again, Zero sources doesn't establish notability. I'm not who keep citing context thing and trying to confuse perhaps unintentionally. It is about notability due to lack of references. I found none so did I point out. If you've then update the references section of the particular article. Whether a thing(living or non-living) is notable or not onto Wikipedia, perhaps only references decide not an individual. AnupMehra 09:28, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

Yes but what I'm saying is that lack of sources on wikipedia doesnt mean that sources don't exist to prove notability. It takes 3 seconds to do a quick google search to show up potential sources to assess notability if an article is unsourced. If we followed your example we'd delete every unsourced or poorly sourced article which would be extremely damaging to the encyclopedia. Regardless of sources, why would you assume that a real world locality isn't notable? Read Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features).♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:31, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

If someone questions the notability of some subject due to lack of references, I expect the defensing person would submit to sources he/she has, to establish notability rather than arguing half an hour or more. And, as I earlier have been repeating, I found none, so did I point out. I'm not saying anyone to follow my example, But better to have no knowledge than knowledge without sources. You must have been heard of many fantasies of Wikipedia. And, Essays are not Wikipedia policy and guidelines. AnupMehra 09:49, 6 October 2013 (UTC)
Sorry! I've to go offline now. I may reply later a day or 2. AnupMehra 09:55, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

In future if you doubt notability because it is short, look in google books. If nothing picks up in google books then you might be onto something. The fact is that you were wrong to propose the deletion of an article which has scores of hits in reliable publications.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:00, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

I'm very sorry for my behavior. But, what I do I wrote what I assumed from the situation. Today I had a fight with a classmate and after that when I checked the flc, then I got angry and and then those posts. I'm very sorry. Please forgive me. I'll definitely improve myself.—Prashant 17:41, 4 October 2013 (UTC)

Prashant!, I suggest you walk away and never darken Dr Blofeld's talk page again. I have spent the last hour going through this whole sorry mess and I am disgusted with how you have behaved. Sesame Street discussion[edit]

Hey Doc, how's it going?! I've started a discussion about the suggestion you made during the FAC of Format of Sesame Street (User talk:Figureskatingfan/Sesame Street Sandbox 2). There hasn't been any discussion about it, probably because no one is aware of it, so I thought that I'd try and elicit involvement. If you have an opinion, which I suspect is the case because you're the only who came up with the idea, please go and express it. Thanks. World production templates[edit]

Good job. I'll add some other crops to that. We've got some work ahead of us but they don't have to be massive articles for a start. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:48, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

That's another good one.

About the world production articles, the country that's ranked #1 should have at least a start class article, such as Avocado production in Mexico. Countries ranked #2, #3, etc., depending on the crop, might not have enough refs, but if they do, then a start class would be appropriate, too. I just don't want to create a bunch of dangling stubs if you know what I mean. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:14, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

I'll introduce one at a time on a Saturday --probably not every Sat-- till we're done with the important ones. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:50, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

We'll leave the case studies to college students. But that brings up an interesting point: college students should be working on these articles! --Rosiestep (talk) 16:54, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

MeA dispute[edit]

Hi. Please make sure that the colourisation section is correct. There is an editor Special:Contributions/Shaku_india who is only here to cause disruption there. Check their edits over the past 6 months. We tried discussion with User_talk:Shaku_india, but he still persists. BollyJeff | talk 19:09, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

I don't understand. What he did has been reverted, and he has been quiet for over two months until today. BollyJeff | talk 19:46, 6 October 2013 (UTC)
No, I did not see what happened. I have been laying pretty low recently, and dropped my watchlist down to just the essentials. Hey, you added some CNs recently to the Principal photography section, but the source is there after the next sentence. Some reviewers say it is bad to have a source repeated several times in a row, and that source is already up to the letter 'v' in its usage, so can we drop that? BollyJeff | talk 12:47, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
So I went back and read some of the bickering nonsense, and it seemed typical for him. I am glad that I un-watched a lot of that junk. Talking about MeA, are you watching the colourised version? Some other facts in the article, about 6000 camels and such, are hard to believe even though they are sourced. I think sometimes legend becomes fact. BollyJeff | talk 14:00, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
So, back to the original issue. I was asking that you make sure that the colourisation section is accurate and strongly sourced so that this guy has no grounds to keep changing it. Thanks, BollyJeff | talk 14:59, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
Now that Deepika Padukone has passed its FA review, can we resume working on MeA? ---- Kailash29792 (talk) 09:51, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

Thank you. I hope that appeases this other guy. I made another correction based on the source. BollyJeff | talk 15:08, 21 October 2013 (UTC)

Are you finished now? If so, I will let it sit for about a week and then nominate. BollyJeff | talk 15:12, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

Pogonophobia‎[edit]

An article that might benefit from your input, if you can find spare time. Cheers. 7&6=thirteen () 19:20, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

Ah is that what they call it! Most interesting! I had a case of pogonophobia three days ago and obliterated my Chuck Norris-like beard to a stubbly goatee but soon regretted it! Sometimes they can look too furry and just have to go. It isn't healthy for a man to permanently have a beard for decades![citation needed] Brian Blessed could have a small rodent living in his beard and he wouldn't notice but for the muffled cries asking to be fed! Paxman has a point but he has a reputation as a clean cut toff on which a beard often seems weird. A beard looks wrong on Jonathan Ross too!♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:25, 6 October 2013 (UTC)
Having borne a beard for nearly four decades, I will now be concerned. I hope you have a WP:RS for that? I have pogonophilia, although my wife not so much. But it is so integral to my identity that I like to think she more than tolerates it. {:>{)> 7&6=thirteen () 19:31, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

Hehe, is it Brian Blessed like though or a short cropped one? When it gets too long I start to wonder what sort of things are living in it invisible to the naked eye! That's what I meant about shaving it off once in a while if it a really long unkempt beard, just in case it has any long-term lodgers which breed inside it and to check that your skin underneath hasn't turned blue or something! I agree though that it feels like you've lost a part of your face shaving it off! I'm growing mine straight back! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:41, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

Like Santa in Miracle on 34th Street, but not so long. In my business the white hair and beard is considered to be a sign of wisdom befitting my office. 7&6=thirteen () 20:01, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

[1] vs [2] Really depends on the guy doesn't it!♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:20, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

More like 1. I fancy myself to look like this, but beauty is surely in the eyes of the beholder, as is delusion. Then again, ZZ Top did not help out the hirsuit cause much. 7&6=thirteen () 20:23, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

The first one certainly looks a lot more handsome than the second one I linked! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:14, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

We could do a rogue's gallery in the article. From Earnest Hemmingway] to Hassidic to Rastafari movement (including Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia) to ZZ Top to some unfortunate dissheveled homeless. There are pictures of Jesus Christ and his disciples with and without beards. There was the facial hair march of the presidents. These cross a lot of cultural bridges, and reactions differ markedly by community and context. 7&6=thirteen () 21:35, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

Importanceassessment[edit]

Well, in that case nearly all popular actors would be mid-importance. I downgraded Balan and Chopra yesterday, after seeing that Zinta, Kareena were already of low importance. I am not so sure about this. Harbhajan Singh, I see, is also low importance.--Dwaipayan (talk) 13:21, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)The importance actually has no importance whatsoever. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 16:18, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

It depends what you're basing it on. There is the saying that "actors are unimportant", but I'd hardly call an article which gets 220,000 hits a month and a 2.5 million views at least a year "low importance". True, it doesn't really make any difference to who bothers to edit an article, but it still looks wrong to assess an article which gets 220 k hits a month as low importance/priority...♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:48, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

  • I get your point. I cannot right now remember what (unwritten) policy we tried to follow during the wikiproject India assessment drive in 2012. Yes, many assessment are very much subjective. Probably the popular/award-winner actors can be mid importance. Would you like to ask this in the noticeboard?--Dwaipayan (talk) 23:47, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

The lovely article created by one Ernst Blofeld.[edit]

I got an absolute laugh out of this edit history. I realise that Polish is your first language and Turkish is your second, but for pete's sake, could you actually write an article as if you were from the same hemisphere as England. It isn't that, it's just sometimes you seem to use dark satire as a front to air your true feelings on something!! It's aevil! So, the article sucked/s, was the edit summary that hilarious? Speedy deletion nomination of Hotel Paracas[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Hotel Paracas, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Greetings and more[edit]

Hola amigo Dr. Blofeld ... I had been meaning to contact you a few weeks ago when I was intensely editing Wiki films during the summer while (I had lots of time and business was incredibly slow) - I'm a event photographer full time these days - and the marketing company I was working for as a trainer went belly up ... I got a lot done on Wiki and worked primarily on films noir and updated the Argentine films on my list, among other articles ... I had little interaction w/ Wikipedians other than this cat named Croscher - he single handily sourced all the films on the List of film noir titles - an incredible feat ... unfortunately, business has picked up which is fantastic for me .. hey, I'm trying to make living here ... I should have connected w/ you and a few others ... so my bad for not having done so .. I'll place the film you mention on my Argentine list and make a few edits when I have time .. looks like it has a super beginning. I also plan to ADD images of celebrities and politicians .. I just have to find some time and find out which is the best license to use so I can get credit if people use the image later -- for example I have a great image of the former world boxing champ - Carlos Palomino and others B and B+ list celebrities who do have a wiki page, but alas no snap because they are still alive and no one had added one. IMPORTANT: I also want to obtain more Wiki Editor rights, like rollback for example. My old buddy (another who I did not contact during the summer) is my old amigio SilkTork, who is now an administrator. I think I'll contact him about obtaining further rights, again when I have time ... right now I'm listed as #2579 most active wikipedian with 22,050 (you are way up there I see .. congrats for your fine work) ...that's it for now. Thanks for getting in touch Luigibob (talk) 14:07, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Sorry[edit]

Extremely sorry, Blofeld. I couldn't review the article because I am feeling very depressed these days, and also was busy. I will review the article a hour later. Severe apologies, --Jionpedia 13:10, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

what's your problem?[edit]

Why you are doing this? I don't need your help. The article has failed and I don't want to know why it failed. But, pls don't drag me into a new controversy. Don't make my life a hell, which is already seems as close as it. I'm facing lot of problems in real life and here too. It's heartbreaking and painful. I asked for your friendship, but you turned into my enemy and.....so, it's very painful as I don't know...why? But, still I respect you and I know you will still hate me..—Prashant 18:56, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

If you don't want controversy or to be dragged into anything, starting to revert to old versions and leaving further childish edit summaries in capital letters in edit summaries isn't helping the situation. You were told last time to just drop it but you can't. If you can't behave whenever anything doesn't go your way then you really should come back only when you're mature enough to deal with it. I'm sorry to hear you're having hardship at university, but it might be what you need to change for the better. Something about you has to change anyway, because if you act like this in uni or the workplace you're going to get knocked down pretty fast. You'd earn a lot more respect here if you stopped reacting to everything like a spoiled brat. The sooner you learn that what you say and do has consequences the better. You've been totally unreasonable in your response to what is only a list. Friends don't bad mouth the work of their friends and become selfish when the going gets tough. You've brought everything on yourself. If you perceive me as your enemy, it's purely of your own doing.

There's nothing wrong with the list. At a different FLC and circumstances it would pass. The problem was that the article did cart wheels and it would have failed anyway if it didn't because of the tone. To blame me for its failure is just silly and I think you know this deep down. The current version if stable throughout the FLC would pass, but that would largely depend on you keeping a cool head, even if it fails again. The problem is that with your behaviour you've already soured many people towards who formerly supported your candidates like Cassianto and Schrod and Cassianto has already said above that he will never support anything you propose again on here. You've made everything more difficult than it needs to be.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:22, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

Have there been any serious discussions about his ownership issues yet? I see nothing in his block log. There's no reason for me to bring this to ANI since I'm not part of the dispute, but I see his ownership as harmful. Ryan Vesey 19:40, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

I know Smarojit and others have had disputes with him but i'm not sure I've seen anything specifically about OWN. It's more his childish edit summaries and attacks on talk pages when things don't go his way. I was going to let it rest and assume he would become inactive but seeing his reverts and edit summaries in the list article today I'd say there's a very strong case for him to be banned from FA permanently, whatever he does.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:43, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

Hey! I'm not feeling any hardship in my University but, in my personal life (my emotional and my feeling). I'm very cordial with everybody in my university. I made new friend and not even a single enemy. I have definitely improved a lot as a person. But, when I saw my hard work on that list going in vain. It was painful as I wanted to move on to another article. But, the situation turned into more scary and tangled in a new thing. Please, forgive me whatever I said, because I want to say something but I wrote something else as I have told you...typing through my iPad is painful to my hand. Please, forgive me. I will not assume that you or anyone else is my enemy. You are my idol here. Please, help me.—Prashant 19:48, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

And now you go and do this in retaliation. You're unbelievable.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:52, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

It's not because of my failed flc but, the tone of the article. If you can adress, I'll strike and will give a glowing string support. Only problem is tone. I have provided a link which clears all. Nothing personal. You know that I want to have all article neutral specially Indian actresses.—Prashant 19:56, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

You strongly opposed a current FAC with zilch constructive input I'm involved with just minutes after the conflict with this. Nothing personal? Sure, a pure coincidence. I'll be opening a full RFC on you tomorrow based on a staggering amount of evidence on why you should be banned from it. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:00, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

well, it's completely your assumption that I did because of my failed flc but it's not true. That article's tone is full of praise much like Kapoor and Zinta and Balan. I have given a link also. If you want to open an rfc then go on. I know you will ask your every friend to support you and they will and ill be blocked. Go on. I don't have to say much, if you can't even take yourself positively on fac. Now, you are again....leave well I think I should ask an administrator to block myself so that you'll be happy.″—Prashant 20:11, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

There you go, you're blocked for two weeks. It would have been completely avoidable if you'd had some form of self-control. Graham has asked me to hold off opening an RFC on you so in a way despite being blocked you've got away with being banned from it this time. But I swear to you if you ever pull anything like this again involving an FAC I'll have you banned from the process asap.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:49, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi Dr. Blofeld. I've a sneaking suspicion that new and clearly experienced user's account User:FrB.TG may be User:Prashant!. The reasons I suspect this are:

I may be totally incorrect about this and it's all a coincidence, and if so I apologise unreservedly to both users and yourself. However if one thinks about this new user's knowledge of Wikipedia, taste in sig and page decoration and chosen subject area, one may be forgiven for being a little suspicious. I wish Prashant no ill; I see him as a good, prolific contributor to WP and I don't want to see him indef blocked or banned; partly why I'm not taking this to AN/I. If I'm correct, catching this early might give him a chance to apologise and do some damage reduction. Thanks for your time. I'll inform them about this posting. Feel free to lambast me if necessary.Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 06:19, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

You should probably bring it to SPI to get a checkuser to look at it. They certainly seem similar to me. Ryan Vesey 06:21, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
Thanks Ryan; yes I should but I'll be going offline in a few minutes, so it will have to wait for a while (unless you or Dr. B. want to). Baffle gab1978 (talk) 06:32, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) I'm actually looking at this now. --Rschen7754 06:47, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks guys. Yes that looks like him. Just when you think he's immature he goes and does something worse. Yes, Prashant has put in some good work to wikipedia but his mentality right now because of his personal problems at uni make him a loose cannon on wikipedia who cannot control himself. Of late he's been far more destructive than constructive. I strongly suggest an indefinite block until he is genuinely feeling better in the real world and can issue an apology to all of those concerned for his behaviour and realize how he has acted. None of us deserve this and I'm sick of his badly written rants which are causing him further embarrassment. It's for his own good that he's blocked for a lengthy duration I think.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:24, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi Blofeld; just to let you know that the checkuser said the accounts are unrelated; see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Pks1142/Archive. Thanks everyone for your time. Regards, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 00:58, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
I'm still suspicious about the editing behaviour. The account is definitely not a newbie. See the very first edit made by the user. Vensatry (Ping me) 18:39, 12 October 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I said to Rschen that although the IP address on his talk page for that account is actually in Norway that there's still something fishy about it all. And the tone of response we're now getting from FrB isn't exactly convincing me... "♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:49, 12 October 2013 (UTC)

The claim of a 'lack of experience' doesn't wash when his/her first 11 edits display a knowledge of wiki-markup, wikitables, the featured article system, the GOCE request system, edit summaries and signature modification (and s/he copied a signature last used by Prashant in February 2013 as far as I can tell). One to keep an eye on I think. Anyway that's my last comment on this; thanks to everyone for your comments and investigation; keep up the good fight. ;-) Cheers all, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 02:13, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

It was Akbar at Agra who initially built the Agra Fort.--Nvvchar. 09:30, 12 October 2013 (UTC)

That is what I am trying to locate. It was called the Shah Burj Tower from where Shah Jahan used to give Jharokha Darshan and that is the place where he was kept under house arrest by his son Aurangzeb. It provides a beautiful view of Taj Mahal built by Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz and he used to gaze at it adoringly all the time from the Jharokha window in the Shah Burj. You must see Taj Nahal. I tried to change the title to italics but did not succeed. Pl change it. By the way this article Template:Did you know nominations/Mysore Dasara 2013, which I wanted for special appearance on 14th Oct, the last day of the 10 day Dasara celebration is stuck. Fuck interest[edit]

Glad you're interested in Fuck (film).

I've taken it through GA, peer review, and copyedit, and I'm mulling over taking it to WP:FAC.

What do you think of the article's quality?

Cirt (talk) 13:41, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

Certainly seems to look near FA quality, helps of course with the OTRS images. Might be a controversial one though for TFA!♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:47, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

  • When I read "fuck interest", I immediately thought of riba. Perhaps because it's the eve of Eid ul-Adha here and thus the mosques are full (and the loudspeakers going non-stop). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:51, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

Any idea Cirt which actor holds the record for most usage in his career? Candidates I can think of offhand Joe Pesci, Steve Buscemi, Samuel L. Jackson, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Eddie Murphy..♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:16, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the positive comments about the article! As for your question, I'd have to agree with you it's probably Joe Pesci. — Cirt (talk) 23:32, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
Buscemi comes close at times I think, have you seen Fargo? On the weight of films like Raging Bull, Goodfellas and Casino combined though yeah I'd say Pesci is the clear winner. Samuel L. Jackson has been in a lot of films though...♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:13, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

I like the idea of a list of the country's large ones, see also regional lists. A regional list gives large and mid-sized ones, see also sub-regional lists. The sub-regional list gives large, medium and small. That breaks it down in a manageable way. Huge lists of names in a foreign language do nothing for me, but I suppose they are harmless. I dislike huge redlink-filled templates full of names in a foreign language. Aymatth2 (talk) 19:55, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

could you spare a moment?[edit]

Hi Dr. Blofeld, hope you're well. I was wondering if you'd like to weigh in at Wikipedia:Files for deletion/2013 October 10, on a discussion about an LP face label being used as the primary means of visual identification in a (non-single) song article. I'd appreciate your input, as an experienced campaigner. For me, it sets a precedent regarding visual identification for a number of song articles I've worked on: I believe using such images is well within the spirit (ie the rationale) of wikipedia's policy on non-free content criteria; within the letter of the law, so to speak, others point to a possible violation of NFCC#8: [4].

You may well disagree with my view – absolutely fine, of course, and why not. I'd just like your opinion, because it strikes me that you've got a good, big-picture perspective on what the encyclopaedia should be aiming to achieve. Best, JG66 (talk) 09:19, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

Fender Modern Player Telecaster Plus[edit]

Because I've been a Tele player for two decades, I went and played one of these new "cheapos" yesterday at Guitar Center. Made in China, sell for US$400 new, US$300 used (I'm trying to scrounge one up for 200-250). Not sure what you play, but if you ever wanted a utility hybrid Tele/Strat guitar on the cheap, you should check them out. Not as nice as my Gretsch, but amazing value. HSS style pickup config. The humbucker is too thin when split, but everything other position sounded really sweet for the price. Not top quality pickups, but still very good. Neck was solid, although I would put some ultra fine sandpaper on the back of it. Fender shows them here[5] and a guy is airing one out here [6]. I just updated the article, and thought you might find that interesting. Dennis Brown |  | WER 17:01, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

I used to have a Royal Purple/Blue tele but it was one of those guitars which just never had a good tone, it didn't have that wonderful snappy/poppin crisp sound that a lot of them have you know for country and blues like Johnny Hiland sort of thing. So I sold it and never regretted it. I'd probably buy another at some point provided that I tested it first to ensure that it has the "sound". I mainly play an Ibanez AG96 jazz guitar now and my Fender Japanese strat which I put 11s on and it sounds Stevie Ray esque, Incidentally I've been learning some country licks of late check out this. When you buy it you gain access to the tab and a backing track. He's the best guitar teacher I've found to date. Check out his jazz stuff too, he's essentially a jazz guitarist.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:06, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

  • What I liked about this guitar is that it has a variety of tones, from jazzy to twangy and the humbucker will work for old rock. Good utility guitar. Normally I play a Tele with Custom Shop Texas Specials, wired with the middle position putting the pickups in series. Very thick but still clear and crisp. That is why I need the utility guitar for the twang. I have a Strat with Custom Shop pickups, but I just hate the feel of Strats. I constantly hit the volume knob and all the bends tweak out the tremolo, and I just prefer hard tails. And yeah, that guy is good. I was picking country and blues with a bass player last night for a few hours, playing some double time 12/4 stuff (my fav) and my arm tendons feel like someone hit them with a hammer. I have no regrets. :) But that guitar is worth checking out. It isn't perfect in any way, but it is very good in most ways and has lots of utility, and is cheap. I played it through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, which is what I usually use at home. Dennis Brown |  | WER 17:19, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

If I buy another guitar it would probably be either a ballsy Les Paul with loads of sustain or an Ibanez Steve Vai jem I think. I use my Sky blue Strat for distorted rock and metal playing at the moment but it doesn't have the edge of either of those guitars for that sort of shred stuff but still sounds very good. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:28, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

  • I have too many but the wrong kinds. I used to own a shop that dealt in used instruments, now sold, so I ended up with a few oddballs (old Fender Mustangs, Gretsch, etc). I gigged with a The Paul and LP 2x cutaway before changing to Teles in the 90s and just lost my taste for Gibson. Too heavy and not clear enough For me, there is no sound better than a Texas Special Tele neck pickup for full bodied, bell like, jazz tones. I've played many Ibanez guitars (and owned an Artcore in the 80s), but I've never played a JEM. That model has been around for years, however, so they must be doing something right. Most of my playing is super clean or with light to moderate amounts of just "breaking", never saturation, which is why I stick with single coils. I like listening to heavy gain, just isn't my picking style. Dennis Brown |  | WER 22:09, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

Michael Powell[edit]

Hi Dr B. Haha, nothing personal on the disagreement front! I just think the director is at least as notable as the other guy (or vice-versa) and keeping the name as the dab works best. At first, I thought the the guy was in The Detectives, but that was Robert Powell! Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 14:14, 29 October 2013 (UTC)

Ha! I knew who he was, I just had a blind spot when I saw your initial post! And not all my articles are stubs - one has even made it to a featured list! One out of 16,000 isn't bad... Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 19:29, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
On an semi-related note, do you have any European film directors who have big holes in their filmographies on here? Happy to make a dent into some of those with article creation. Cheers! Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 12:33, 30 October 2013 (UTC)

DYK for First Belgrade Singing Society[edit]

The DYK project (nominate) 16:03, 30 October 2013 (UTC)

Ontario is large and flat. Every crack and hollow in the Canadian shield is filled with water. There may be half a million lakes, more during the spring melt. A comprehensive list would break the size limit and would be full of repeats like Three Mile Lake, Bow Lake and Bear Lake. If they have names: see 52°19′52″N 86°56′50″W / 52.331169°N 86.947224°W / 52.331169; -86.947224. There are 3,899 lakes that cover more than 3 square kilometres (1.2 sq mi), so even that list would be pushing the limits of usability. On the other hand, lake articles are relaxing and completely uncontroversial. All that is needed is a reasonably detailed map and an MNR fishing guide. Aymatth2 (talk) 14:20, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

Round Lake is a small lake in Northern Ontario near the Saskatchewan border. It is roughly circular, about 200 metres (660 ft) across, and shallow. It is located in relatively flat, rocky land, with sparse boreal forest dominated by old-growth white spruce. A small meandering stream leaves the north-west corner of the lake and eventually joins a tributary of the Pasquatchai River. The lake freezes in winter. Walleye, pike and lake trout may be caught at any time of year. Live fish may not be used as bait. Have a good day.

About 3 million, most of which freeze in winter. Many of the lakes contain one or more islands, some of which contain lakes like Lake Kagawong that in turn contain islands such as Gull Island, named for the bird. I don't know if Gull Island contains a lake. Perhaps a small pond. Ice does not stop people from fishing. See last picture. All you need is a hut, a kerosene stove and a two-four. And a line, of course. The description above would apply to many of the lakes, with minor adjustments. There probably is even a Round Lake that fits the description, perhaps several of them. Aymatth2 (talk) 15:07, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

I should warn you that the Frith Lake on Kelvin Island is not the same as the Frith Lake near West Shining Tree Lake where gold was found. Nothing is known of the Kelvin island Frith Lake other than its location and the applicable fishing regulations. It would be a reasonable assumption that it freezes over. Jiddat al-Harasis[edit]

Hello, Doc B! I don't understand what happened during the recent review of Jiddat al-Harasis. For some reason the entire flora and fauna sections were removed. The only edit summary for the removal was "begin cleanup". The sections were referenced and included a picture. The recent DYK was based on information in the fauna section, which is now gone. Was this an oversight, or was there some reason for stripping out these sections? Thanks for taking a look. --MelanieN (talk) 14:33, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi User:MelanieN howz it goin in sunny CA? A big part of the reason was this scathing review [7] He seemed to view the fauna and flora content in a lot as highly problematic, so I thought it was just safer to nuke it. However. if you've checked the information and are convinced it's fine please restore those deleted paragraphs. I just want an article which is satisfactory and not riddled with issues.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:37, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for your prompt reply. Sunny CA is .... sunny! 0;-D Please don't take that one bad review to mean that you should always delete all flora and fauna content - even if it is referenced and relevant to the article. The fact that the badscience guy found a few errors in flora and fauna articles doesn't mean that all flora and fauna information should be tossed out. These things need to be evaluated individually; the saying about babies and bathwater comes to mind. In many cases the flora and fauna are what make the place interesting (that's why it was the basis of the DYK). I'll restore the info but feel free to improve it. BTW in the future if you are unsure about the validity of such info, or if you want me to take a look at other articles where you have deleted the entire section, ping me and I'll take a look. --MelanieN (talk) 15:03, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

Melanie, we've just spent several days checking information evaluated individually, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Rosblofnari/Audit. I removed a lot of the content from Sorghum production in Chad too, until the article can be checked. We decided it was safer to do so, but most the content we're not throwing out and are spending a lot of time checking every bit of info. Feel free to edit and restore, so long as you check the info and it's fine and accurate. You're welcome to help join in the article auditing on the WP:RBN. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:17, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

I still don't understand. When you stubified the Chad article you threw out everything sourced to six of the seven references, which appear to be perfectly valid references - in fact, they appear to be far more Reliable Sources than the one you kept. What is the logic for removing such information? Forgive me, I know you spend a lot of time here improving the encyclopedia and I admire you for it, but I don't understand how it improves the encyclopedia to wholesale-delete information that is sourced to Reliable Sources. Why not check it first, and delete only the information that doesn't check out? --MelanieN (talk) 17:24, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

To temporarily avoid further embarrassment and scrutiny of content and sources on Chad/desert material. Look, please don't lecture me on how to cleanup, I've spent many hours over the last few days checking virtually everything. It's time I didn't have to put in Melanie, so please don't infer that I'm taking the easy option and being lazy. Our group members have agreed with my editing approach. Probably, once our current batch is reviewed I might even develop one of them to GA level just to demonstrate that any problem on wikipedia can be resurrected if people stopped moaning and did some work. On the surface, yes at least 90% of our content/sourcing seems OK/appropriate but there's a lot more to things than meets the eye and I'd rather be on the safe side at least until the Chad article can be readdressed, we alreayd have more than enough to be working on checking.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:28, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, I'm not in any way criticizing you and I admire the hard work you do here. I'm just trying to understand what's going on. So in other words, the removal is temporary? You will be reviewing the material and eventually restoring the valid parts? In that case, more power to you. I just have a problem if it's being PERMANENTLY or long-term deleted, on the off chance that it might contain an error or two. --MelanieN (talk) 17:33, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

Rosie and I made the decision to take drastic measures primarily with the Chad/science related content of late to stop giving the blogger material to breed new scathing articles on. We already have a lot of articles to check and we intended coming back to the articles like Sorghum in Chad once the situation dies down. If you'd experienced what we've experienced you'd fully understand. As with any "scathing review" and criticism, it's usually exaggerated, but it's a risk we can't afford to take. By all means check the material and verify it and restore. But if we were taking the easy option, we'd delete every unchecked article we'd ever worked on, rather than steadily plod through every source. We'd really appreciate your help and anybody's else Melanie in Wikipedia:WikiProject Rosblofnari/Audit. Feel free to read and check the sourcing/content of any of the remaning articles listed there and leave comments in the end column and sign your name if you're interested in salvaging content!♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:40, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

I'll take a look at the Sorghum article when I get a chance and see what I can restore. I was puzzled by the name Rosblofnari - maybe an acronym of your usernames? --MelanieN (talk) 17:51, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
Correct!♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:54, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
