The Chiș Family is a Romanian noble family from the County of Maramureș in northern Romania prominent in the fields of local society, political and economic life.

Origin[edit]

The family originates in the historic part of the County of Maramures in Romania, around the current city of Săliștea de Sus (Săliște or Seliște) being first mentioned in documents from the 15th century A.D.
Săliștea de Sus (hu: Felsoszelistye), situated on both shores of the Iza (river) was initially composed of two towns, having therefore two parishes. In 1365 A.D. "Keetzeleste" was the property of Bogdan Vodă (Bogdan I), and afterwards of the descendants of Ştefan Vodă: Iuga, Radu, Ivan and Marin, the sons of Vlad, Ioan Chişu şi Dumitru Bâleanu, the sons of Nan, Buja alias Vlad (1638), Bâleanu (1642), Bercam (1699), Florca alias Iuga (1584), Iuga (1468), Chişiu alias Bulean (1486), Matieş alias Vlad (1683), Nistor alias Iuga (1699), Rusu (1699), Şofrac (1699), Tenchiş alias Giurgiu (1644), Trifan şi Trufan alias luga (1584), Tutuia (1547), Ungur (1670), Trifan din Deseşti (1660), Vlad (1468) şi Vlad din Poienile Izei and Şicu (1645).
