Redditch is a non-metropolitan district of England with borough status, located within the county of Worcestershire. Its council is based in the town of Redditch, which occupies the north-eastern half of the district. The south-western, rural half contains the villages of Astwood Bank and Feckenham. Neighbouring districts are Bromsgrove to the north, Wychavon to the west and Stratford-on-Avon to the east. The district contains 12 wards and 1 civil parish, Feckenham[5] the rest of the district is an unparished area.

It was formed as Redditch Urban District in 1894, on 1 April 1931 it gained part of Alcester Rural District, on 1 April 1933 it gained part of Bromsgrove Rural District and part of Feckenham Rural District, on 1 April 1965 it gained part of Alcester Rural District, on 1 April 1966 it gained part of Bromsgrove Rural District and lost part to Bromsgrove Rural District, on 1 April 1969 it gained part of Alcester Rural District.[6] On 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, the urban district was reconstituted as a non-metropolitan district of Hereford and Worcester with the same boundaries as the urban district.[7] On 1 April 1998 Hereford and Worcester was abolished and the district became part of Worcestershire.[8]
