Needing Wiki contribution assistance![edit]

Hello Easchiff!

I am looking for an experienced Wikipedian to contribute an article for our band Mr. Meeble. I have checked and we meet the Wikipedia "notability" guidelines for a band. We have a very basic Wikipedia article written already, but I know that someone like yourself may be able to point out our formatting errors and critical omissions. You can hear our music and see our videos here:

Let me know if you would be willing to help!

Regards,
Devin

Sorry - this isn't an article I'd want to work on. Cheers, Easchiff (talk) 12:42, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

Night Moves[edit]

I saw that you are working on Night Moves (film). It looks like you have found a lot of references already. I found another source here and am able to access the full PDF. I can send it to you if you are interested? Erik (talk | contribs) 15:19, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

That's a very perceptive review of this fine movie; thanks for the tip and the offer. I could access Kirschner's review through my university library. I'll work the reference into the article when I get a chance. Something about that film gets under my skin. Here's a quote from David Meyer that I put into the Alan Sharp article, but chose to leave out of the Night Moves article: "These delicious, poisonous moments – these cookies full of arsenic – come courtesy of Alan Sharp's venomous, entrapping, perfectly circular screenplay. It's hard not to regard him – rather than Penn – as the engine of Night Moves' enduring power. Sharp had an unbroken forty year career writing features and television." WP Poetry and The Canterbury Tales task force[edit]

As someone who is listed as a participant for WikiProject Poetry, I hope you will be interested to learn of an attempt to revive the WP and alongside this the creation of task force to improve coverage of The Canterbury Tales. We are currently looking for participants to help set up the basics. Please get involved if you can, and we can hopefully revive this important project within Wikipedia! Many thanks, MasterOfHisOwnDomain (talk) 00:25, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

I'm glad to see this activity. It's catching me at a busy time, and I don't think I'll be able to help out much in the near future. I'll look in when I can! Easchiff (talk) 21:05, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
Okay, that's no problem — help is appreciated whenever it arrives. At the moment we're just trying to decide on the structure and style issues, so it's just voicing an opinion. Thanks. MasterOfHisOwnDomain (talk) 11:27, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

Hand-coding[edit]

Hey all :).

I'm dropping you a note because you've been involved in dealing with feedback from the Article Feedback Tool. To get a better handle on the overall quality of comments now that the tool has become a more established part of the reader experience, we're undertaking a round of hand coding - basically, taking a sample of feedback and marking each piece as inappropriate, helpful, so on - and would like anyone interested in improving the tool to participate :).

You can code as many or as few pieces of feedback as you want: this page should explain how to use the system, and there is a demo here. Once you're comfortable with the task, just drop me an email at okeyes@wikimedia.org and I'll set you up with an account :).

If you'd like to chat with us about the research, or want live tutoring on the software, there will be an office hours session on Monday 17 December at 23:00 UTC in #wikimedia-office connect. Hope to see some of you there! Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 23:08, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Article Feedback deployment[edit]

Hey Easchiff; I'm dropping you this note because you've used the article feedback tool in the last month or so. On Thursday and Friday the tool will be down for a major deployment; it should be up by Saturday, failing anything going wrong, and by Monday if something does :). Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 22:03, 13 March 2013 (UTC)

Lynn Poole[edit]

This is a courtesy notice of my revision of the biography Lynn Poole. The edit summary indicates how I spent much time there but does not cover a possibly substantial revision of the last sentence in the lead paragraph, "Marcel LaFollette ...". Perhaps NOVA and Discovery Channel are contemporary science programming today, or examples that you rather than LaFollette provided, or both, and you hoped to convey that. ("cf." doesn't do that but my revision may be objectionable)

I think we should use template (subscription required) to cover the dual subscription-or-payperview that seems to cover three online sources (refs #1,4,14, one of which I missed). This template puts the article in . --P64 (talk) 00:15, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for writing me, and for your good work on the article. I don't have any objections to the substantive changes you've made, which all seem to be improvements to me. Incidentally, Marcel LaFollette has a new book out about science TV; I presume she mentions Poole, but I haven't seen the book yet. Cheers, Easchiff (talk) 00:50, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Ring of Bright Water poster.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Ring of Bright Water poster.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 19:42, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

A sound editor that is linked on your page I linked to with the name you have...[edit]

But you have the only link to George Watters II where it is listed as George D. Watters. I kept that there as a reference by having a redirect to that page, so there you go. Wgolf (talk) 17:08, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know, and for taking care to create the redirect page. The list you found is a copy of the American Cinema Editors membership listing from a few years ago. I think of it as a checklist for prominent film editors. I'll added the appropriate text and category to your page for him. Easchiff (talk) 17:39, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Welcome-I did make the redirect page, I have been adding tons of sound editors who have won/nominated for Oscars as of late. Wgolf (talk) 17:41, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Thanks![edit]

Yeah I have added tons of nominees/winners as of late, quite a few that won make-up, sound editing and film editing it seems. (I could list them all here, but probably wont ha ha) so yeah again thanks! Wgolf (talk) 18:13, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Well, I did a little research. I think George Watters II is probably the son of George D. Watters, who edited for television from 1964-1976 (George Watters at IMDb). I did edit the new article for the son to give the number of film credits and to show the birthname given on IMDB. As a matter of style, articles usually start by indicating the activity of a person before noting distinctions like the number of Oscars, BAFTAs, etc..
Also, there's a German Wikipedia article about Watters that gives a link to his biography: see 2012 MPSE Career Achievement Award Recipient. You could expand the article based on that if you're interested. Easchiff (talk) 18:17, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

So I see now. Well you can check my creation log sometime if you want to see some of the people I've made. Well good luck. Wgolf (talk) 18:21, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Well added more Oscar winners/noms as of late[edit]

I also got all the sound editors pages. Though some people turned out to have pages and were never linked (found quite a few visual effects people that way, also the editor of Deliverance had a page but was typed wrong even!) Here are some pages I have added lately:

Gloria Gresham, Judianna Makovsky, Howard Berger, David Finfer, Richard Nord, Dean Goodhill, Glenn Farr, James Straus, Robert Lawrence (film editor), Joe Viskocil, Volker Engel, Clay Pinney, Douglas Smith (special effects artist), Donfeld, Al DiSarro, Charles Gibson (special effects artist), Steve Courtley, James E. Newcom, John W. Holmes (film editor), William Manger, Stuart Gilmore, Conor O'Sullivan (make-up artist), J. Terry Williams, William Cannon (director), Jon Thum, Janek Sirrs, Kenneth F. Smith

With Judianna Makovsky I had problems linking her to other languages since they were being linked separately, took me a while but finally got it. While for some odd reason for the longest times James E. Newcom was listed as James E. Mewcom

If you want just check for all of mine sometime, have a nice day Wgolf (talk) 15:22, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

I took a look. It's great that you're doing these starter articles. I hope that it will encourage people to develop them further. The problem I usually have is the absence of secondary sources that discuss the contributions of these artists, which makes development of articles beyond the stub category pretty difficult. Cheers, Easchiff (talk) 17:28, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

Yeah that is a problem, the older ones have a bigger problem. Even recent people do to, such as this film editor I added who did Amadeus surprisingly only has 2 other films on her filmography! Wgolf (talk) 21:21, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

One of the visual effects artist of Mary Poppins does not have a page-surprise he does not as he did a lot for Disneyland also. Eustace Lycett is the guys name if you ever feel like adding him.

One thing I have a problem with is adding editors and cinematographers since so many have a long list to link to.Wgolf (talk) 23:12, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

I pretty much specialize on film editors and not the other crafts. There's plenty more to do with editors, and I've gotten better at that as I've written more articles.
I presume that you're referring to the filmographies for the various articles. It is a pain, and I think it's important to decide how a Wikipedia filmography can be better than the IMDb filmography. For editors, listing the directors of the films in the filmography is a good idea, since the editor and director usually work closely together. However, I've been skipping filmographies in some of my articles lately, like Luciano's. Cheers, Easchiff (talk) 18:31, 26 March 2014 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Michael Luciano[edit]

Hello! Your submission of Michael Luciano at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Orlady (talk) 19:27, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for your review and for adding those additional citatons to infoplease. About the count of films directed by Aldrich and edited by Luciano: it's difficult to examine the filmography incorporated in Silver's monograph using books.google. However, I'm only counting 18 films using google's search feature. I'll look at a hard copy within a day or so; my library does have the book. I have only occasionally found errors in IMDb's crew listings in the past. Perhaps this is one of those cases. Easchiff (talk) 12:18, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

Well making a page for another Oscar winning editor right now[edit]

For Stephen A. Rotter, so yeah when I'm done look around for some info on this guy. Thanks!Wgolf (talk) 15:32, 4 April 2014 (UTC)

The stub looks good. I'm working on another project right now, so it'll be a couple of weeks before I can check out additional sources for Rotter. I updated the navbox call in the article for the current version; at some point, the navbox got updated to show all the editors who've ever received Oscars, instead of the 20-year navboxes that were used originally. Cheers, Easchiff (talk) 07:03, 5 April 2014 (UTC)

A set of editors that are going to be hard to separate[edit]

There is John F. Link Sr. and his son John F. Link Problem is that some of sr.'s film credits are under his son's. There is a page for John Link that is a DAB page, but yep if you feel like it go ahead. Wgolf (talk) 15:39, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

You mean in the infoboxes for their films? Sounds like a pain to fix. Anyway, I'm still working on another project for now. cheers, Easchiff (talk) 22:15, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

re: Ida (film)[edit]

Nope, don't think so. You can add the author parameter, etc to the reference. Always best to make it an inline cite, rather than another external link (or variation of). Thanks. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 17:29, 6 May 2014 (UTC)

One film editor (without a page as of now) who was nominated for an Oscar that has several links to his name[edit]

Well feel free to add this guy but Fred R. Feitshans Jr seems to have several ways to go to his name including just Fred Feitshans. Which is what I notice for quite a few people really. (most common are women though as sometimes they will be under the maiden name)

Wgolf (talk) 19:33, 17 August 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for your note. I can't find anything written about Feitshans. I'm sure he deserves better, but I don't usually write articles about people when secondary sources are this thin. Cheers, Easchiff (talk) 10:59, 19 August 2014 (UTC)
