Cycling Utah Magazine is a western states regional bicycling magazine. Produced in Salt Lake City, Utah. Cycling Utah Magazine serves all interests and disciplines of bicycling.

Origin[edit]

Cycling Utah Magazine is an experiential oriented newspaper like publication first published in in March of 1993.

The founders of Cycling Utah Magazine were Dave Ward in the capacity of publisher, and Bob Truelson as editor-in-chief. The magazine continues to utilize newsprint for its printed form. Cycling Utah iMagazine s a all-in-one bicycle-content-centric newspaper that serves the greater inter-mountain west region of the United States.

Content evolution: In the early volumnes, Cycling Utah Magazine emphasized local and regional competitive bicycle racing content. Over time, content diversified to be inclusive of all disciplines in bicycling: [road bicycling], [bicycle touring], [mountain biking] and,[bmx] . Further, the magazine/newspaper provided content related to [bicycle advocacy], [bicycle legislation], [bicycle laws], [bicycle infrastructure], and [bicycle safety].

  • The paper is funded by advertisers: approximately 85% from event promoters, 10% from tourism organizations, 4% by independent bicycle dealers, and 1% by bicycle industry product manufactures.

All volumes and issues provide bicycle race results and a regional bicycle-event calendar].

  • Approximately 60% of the paper is printed in color.
  • On average, the paper has 44 to 48 pages of content.

Timeline Events[edit]

First Published - March 1993. Website launch - 1993. Dave Iltis becomes Editor 2001. Dave Iltis purchases 50% share from Bob Truelson 2001. Dave Iltis secures 100% ownership in January 2016. Cycling Utah Magazine rebrands as Cycling West Magazine in States outside of Utah.
