Sidharth Shukla (born 12 December 1980)[1] is an Indian actor, model and host from Mumbai. He started his career as a Model. He won the World's Best Model title in November 2005, beating 40 other participants from across Asia, Latin America, and Europe.[2]

He made his acting debut in the 2008 show Babul Ka Aangann Chootey Na. He is known for his roles in Love U Zindagi, Balika Vadhu and Dil Se Dil Tak. He participated in the reality shows Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa[3], Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 7 and Bigg Boss 13.[4] In 2014, Shukla made his Bollywood debut in a supporting role in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania.[5] In 2019, Shukla was among the Top 10 Most Searched Personalities in India on Google.[6]

Early life[edit]

Shukla was born into a Hindu Brahmin[7] family in Mumbai to Ashok Shukla, a civil engineer working with the Reserve Bank of India and Rita Shukla. He has two elder sisters. His family originates from Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. Shukla attended St. Xavier's High School, Fort and later completed his degree in Interior Design at Rachana Sansad School of Interior Design.[8][9] Shukla has described himself as a very athletic child, and represented his school in tennis and football.[10]

In 2004, as a model, Shukla participated in the Gladrags Manhunt and Megamodel Contest, where he ended up as the runner-up.[11] In 2005, he represented India at the World's Best Model, one of world's most prestigious modelling contests, held in Turkey and became the first Indian, as well as the first Asian, to win the title beating 40 contestants from across Asia, Latin America, and Europe.[12][13] After winning the title Sidharth was Seen in many ads as Bajaj, ICICI and Digjam among others.[14]

Television[edit]

In 2008, he made his acting debut with a lead role in the television show Babul Ka Aangann Chootey Na on Sony TV opposite Aastha Chaudhary. Shukla played role of Shubh Ranawat, a man dedicated to his work and family. On his father's request, he quits his job abroad and joins the family business.[15] The show ended on 5 February 2009. In 2010, he played Veer Vardhan Singh's character in Jaane Pehchaane Se... Ye Ajnabbi on Star One. Later in 2011, he appeared in the weekend show Love U Zindagi on StarPlus. The show was inspired by the Bollywood movie, Jab We Met, where Shukla played Rahul Kashyap's character.[16][17]

Breakthrough and Bollywood[edit]

In 2012, Sidharth got a chance to play Shivraj Shekhar, a.k.a. Shiv, in the Balika Vadhu.[18] It was his portrayal of Shivraj Shekhar in the long-running Colors TV social drama series Balika Vadhu which rose him to prominence and earned him widespread recognition and popularity, including several awards and nominations.He got Gr8 performer of the year award in ITA.[19] The ratings of the show increased after his entry.[20]

In 2013, Shukla participated in the celebrity dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.[21] As non dancer, he was mostly seen as a weak dancer on the celebrity dance show. His towering and charming personality only kept him in the show and show also helped him to improve as dancer.[22] After getting eliminated in the 11th week, Shukla said in an interview "I completely enjoyed my journey on the show. There was a lot I could learn. I would have loved to continue".[23] Later show was won by Drashti Dhami.

In January 2014, it was reported that Shukla had signed a 3-film-deal with Dharma Productions.[5] The film was offered by Karan Johar As he was the judge of dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa where Sidharth was a contestant.[24] Shukla debuted in the romantic comedy Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania in a supporting role, playing the character of an NRI doctor named Angad Bedi. The film earned him an award for Breakthrough Supporting Performance (Male) in the 2015 Stardust Awards.[25]

In 2014, Sidharth was named the host of Savdhaan India named as Savdhaan India – Fight Back Now.[26][27] He brought the stories of common people who fought against crime. In the past, Savdhaan India was hosted by television actors namely Amar Upadhyay, Hiten Tejwani and Pratyusha Banerjee as hosts.[28]

In 2015, he hosted India's Got Talent 6, with Bharti Singh.[29]

In 2016, Sidharth participated in the stunt reality show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 7. He was eliminated in earlier weeks, but returned as a wild card contestant again. Shukla further went on to win the show after coming in as a wild card entrant.[30][31][32] He again hosted India's Got Talent 7, alongside Bharti Singh.[33]

In 2017, he played the role of Parth Bhanushali in Dil Se Dil Tak with co-star Rashami Desai and Jasmin Bhasin.[34]

In 2019, he participated and won the reality show Bigg Boss 13.[35][36] Ormax media rated Shukla to be most popular contestant of Bigg Boss 13, where he was ranked number 1 throughout 20 weeks.[37] He was also the most tweeted contestant of Bigg Boss 13.[38] He was voted as the most favourite contestant of Bigg Boss 13 in the polls conducted by Hidustan Times, India TV News and The Times of India.[39][40][41]

After winning Bigg Boss 13, Sidharth appeared in a music video with his co-contestant Shehnaaz Kaur Gill.[42][43]
