Marisha Ray is an American voice actress, host, creative director, and producer. She is best known for her roles as Keyleth and Beauregard in Geek & Sundry's Critical Role..[1], as well as characters from Persona 4[2][3] and Fire Emblem: Fates[3]. She is married to fellow voice actor Matthew Mercer.

Early life[edit]

Marisha Ray was born May 10, 1989 near Louisville, KY. She took ballet and tap dance lessons from age 7, and began acting at the Actors Theater of Louisville at age twelve.[4] She attended college at Point Park University in Pittsburgh.

Career[edit]

Ray moved to Los Angeles in the summer of 2008 in order to start a career as an actress. However, the writer's strike made it difficult for her to get auditions and she decided to create content herself. Ray produced a Batgirl fanseries in 2012 called Batgirl: Spoiled, where she played the titular character.[5]

In 2014, she began her voice acting career with the role of Margaret in the fighting video games Persona 4: Arena Ultimax and Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth.[5] Since then, she has accumulated a lengthy list of credits from videogames such as Star Wars: Battlefront and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, as well as starring in several short films and theater productions.

On March 12, 2015, Ray began co-starring in the web series Critical Role, in which the cast, consisting of professional voice actors, plays Dungeons & Dragons, Fifth Edition, led by Dungeon Master Matthew Mercer.[6] Her character for the first campaign was Keyleth, the half-elf druid.[7] Her character for the second campaign, which started in January 2018, is Beauregard, the human monk. Ray is involved in many of Geek & Sundry and Project Alpha's other productions[8], including co-hosting Key Question,[9] producing Signal Boost!,[10][11] and acting in Shield of Tomorrow and Sagas of Sundry.[12]

Ray announced her appointment to the post of Creative Director for Geek & Sundry on July 28, 2017, but stepped down in June of 2018 in order to be able to focus on her tasks as Creative Director of Critical Role's new studio[13][14]

Ray can also be seen alongside Chris Burnett as one of the hosts for Gamestop TV.

Personal life[edit]

On October 14, 2016, Ray announced her engagement to Matthew Mercer, fellow voice actor and fellow member of the Critical Role cast. They married on October 21, 2017.

According to a 2016 interview[15], Ray believes in bringing more people, especially women, into the "club" of gamers due to the positive impact gaming has had on her life and in continuing to make strides for gender equality in the acting industry. She encourages other women to get involved in tabletop gaming in particular. In 2017, it was noted that Ray has occasionally had to step away from social media due to fans' reactions to happenings on Critical Role.[16]
