User:Erin Brault/Elinor More

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ellen or Elinor More was a pilgrim orphan who rode on the Mayflower at the age of 8. She is believed to have died of the sickness that killed half the crew and passengers on the ship when the ship was in the harbor in the winter of 1620-1621. They thought this because there are were no records of her after this time. She is also called Elinor.

Elinor had two brothers and one sister. All four siblings rode on the Mayflower together and were given to different families to be watched. Ellen was watched by Edward Winslow's family. A document was discovered in 1959 in the home of their ancestor, Sir Jasper More, which finally identified them.[1]

Elinor's brother and sister Jasper and Mary More died also the first winter of 1620. Her brother Richard More survived and became a ship captain who helped supplied the other colonies with the necessities of life.
