History[edit]

RainTees was developed in 2008 after its founder, Beth Doane, started to seriously question the ethics of the fashion industry after seeing the negative environmental effects and human rights violations rampant in apparel production and manufacturing. The brand quickly developed into a strong for-profit model after its launch at the fall 2008 Mercedes Benz fashion week, when Beth announced a tree would be planted for every item sold. Today RainTees works in approximately 30 countries around the world and donates school supplies to children in need while facilitating art sessions and promoting art education.

Business[edit]

RainTees became the only apparel brand to use original artwork from children on their product and produce fashion using fair-trade, ethical methods while giving back through every item sold. Through donated school supplies, the children are asked to draw a picture of what they see going on around them in their communities. The brand has ongoing partnerships with many well known local and national companies, NGO’s and organizations such as The World Wildlife Fund and Trees for the Future, to encourage environmental awareness and support key issues such as climate change, human rights and sustainability.

Recognition[edit]

RainTees multifaceted business model has led the brand to be highlighted in numerous media outlets, such as InStyle, National Geographic, People, Glamour, and Seventeen. Celebrity supporters include Alicia Sliverstone, Rosario Dawson, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, and Amanda Peet. Latin pop star Debi Nova, model Kate Dillon, Celine and Fabien Cousteau and TV host and environmental lifestyle expert Sara Snow are also some of the celebrities that show strong support for the brand.

Current Projects[edit]

In 2011 RainTees launched a free Pen Pal program to connect fans with at-risk youth around the world.
