Introduction/Bio[edit]

I am an undergrad at Rice University studying mechanical engineering. I am interested in environmental justice and activism and as such will I am taking the Poverty, Justice and Human Capabilities course. I hope to contribute to a page discussing the role of engineering in environmental justice or on the development of African countries.

Proposed Topics[edit]

Proposed Topic 1: “The Doubt Machine: Inside the Koch Brothers' War on Climate Science”[edit]

This article is a stub class but is rated of high importance because it covers the topic of the Koch’s Brothers climate misinformation campaigns. This page focuses specifically on the documentary, however, I intend to expand this article and add more information on the documentary and also some background information on the Koch’s Brothers war on climate science. I will also provide introductions for other similar misinformation campaigns in the background. Furthermore, I am considering making a page specifically for climate change misinformation campaigns as this is an important topic that is not covered and whose page does not exist in wikipedia.

Proposed Topic 2: Environmental Youth Activism[edit]

This page does not exist on wikipedia but I think it is necessary to add as its own page because of the recent surge in environmental youth activism. The parent page or this would be the youth activism page and it is currently rated of low importance for sociology(start), politics(start), and social work(B) wikiprojects. In this new page I will go through a history of youth activism, list some well known groups and people from the past and the present, highlight their important contributions, list any contradictory events, and create a general overview of what youth environmental activism has looked like around the world for the past 100 years.

Proposed Topic Remastered: Climate Justice[edit]

Climate Justice refers to the ethical, political, social implications of climate change and not just the environmental ones. The current page on climate only offers a definition, a history of the term, its controversial interpretations, and legal actions on climate change issues. This article is currently rated as a start class article of high-importance by the Environment and Climate change WikiProjects. To better the page I will be writing more in debt about what climate justice is, what it effects, why it matters, the way it is viewed today, and its connection with poverty, gender, race, human rights, ethics and other issues. This is a tentative list as of now and will most likely change as I read more about it and determine what is most important to discuss.
