User:FCB981[edit]

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article User:FCB981, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at [[Talk:User:FCB981|its talk page]]. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. —Vanderdeckenξφ 18:05, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

FPC[edit]

Thanks alot. They just really pissed me off. It was like talking to a room full fundamentalists, I guess reason doesn't work. I sure got their attention though. I thought it was funny how I was instantly "attacking" when I used the eff bomb. Oh well. I probably won't be back. I think it's kind of sad that a few people are really guiding the featured pictures, it really limits what gets up there, in my opinion. Thanks again.A mcmurray 05:22, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

December Fog[edit]

Thank-you for your edit. The problem is my edit, Image:December Fog 01 edit2.jpg, has to much noise, and therefore so does your edit of it. Could you please take Image:December Fog 01 edit.JPG, which has very little noise, crop it, and do what you did with the mountains on your edit? --Digon3 22:06, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Thank you very much, it looks a lot better --Digon3 17:10, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Killer whale FPC[edit]

Hello. A Featured Picture Candidate you commented on, Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Killer whale mother and calf, is now in the section for "Older nominations requiring additional input from voters." Contributors have tried to improve it after you commented, and your opinion is welcome as to whether any one of the available versions deserves promotion. I am sending this message to everyone who participated in the FPC. Thanks! Kla'quot 06:22, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Second Look[edit]

Could you please take a second look at Wikipedia:Picture peer review/Larrys Creek Covered Bridge? I had the original version, which is more than large enough for FPC criteria, and have now uploaded that. Thanks, Ruhrfisch 03:41, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Sweet Violet PPR[edit]

I have uploaded a new version of the sweet violet, and, because your comments have been so helpful (considering my absolute cluelessness about good photography), I hope it won't be too much to ask you to take a look. Thegreenj 21:51, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

  • I went ahead and nominated it because peer review is not giving me the in-depth critique I need. If it fails miserably (which I expect it to do), I hope I can learn from the process as I cannot through PPR. Thank you for your peer review comments; you seem to be single-handledly taking on the arduous task of replying to every proposal, but I need more. I hope everything goes well. Thegreenj 05:40, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
    • You have been so helpful in the past, so I hope that it is not too much to ask you to look at the new sweet violet PPR with improved DOF and reduced chromatic abberration. Thank you, Thegreenj 22:19, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Commons[edit]

Hi, Please consider uploading your photos to the Wikimedia Commons (located here). This would allow your images to be used throughout other Wikimedia Foundation's sister projects. Thanks, Cacophony 15:42, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Glad to hear it. Regarding your PFC, may I suggest that you go to the Marquam Bridge early the morning of the Bridge Pedal. They close it to vehicluar traffic and anyone can ride or walk on it. I went there last year (without paying for the whole bike ride), but I missed the good early morning sun and was left with harsh noon lighting. I think if you made it there right after they close it (like around 8am?) you could get a wonderful shot. Thanks, Cacophony 18:26, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
That is hillarious. I just got back from a couple hours of shooting (Pioneer Square, Waterfront) myself. It was a great night for photography. One of these days we might just bumb into each other. Oh, and the Commons has Quality Images and their own Featured pictures, which have slightly different criteria than Wikipedia FPs. You should give those a go also! Cacophony 07:09, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
You really must be following me around. Were you hiking around Mt. Adams this weeked? Cacophony 05:05, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Night photography[edit]

Hi. There isn't really any one particular trick to getting low noise in night shots. The biggest factor is simply a low ISO setting as you already mentioned. Other than that, it really depends on the camera. I see you have a Nikon D40, which SHOULD be able to give you pretty low noise, but from my experience and from what I've read, the Canon sensors are just a little bit better as far as noise levels go. Particularly since my camera (Canon 5D) can go as low as ISO 50, whereas I believe the Nikon D40 will only go to ISO 200. If you really do find that you're getting a lot of noise in your shots, you can use noise reduction software (I use it mainly for high ISO shots though, not long exposures) such as Neat Image. Sorry I can't give you more specific hints or tips. Diliff | (Talk) (Contribs) 07:21, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

  • Ahh.. Well one thing I forgot to mention is that a lot of my photos are mosaics/panoramas, meaning that they are lots of photos stitched together. What this means is that I can usually downsample (reduce the resolution) of the final image and still have a really detailed image. As a welcome side effect, it also reduces the visible noise somewhat. So I'd say its a combination of camera and technique. Keep at it though. At ISO 200, the noise can't be that noticeable. WPOR Collaboration of the Week[edit]

Greetings WPOR member, we are starting a weekly collaboration project where we will announce two articles that are currently stubs that we hope to work together to improve. No pressure to help, but if you would like to, just stop by one of the articles and see if you can find information to expand the article with, copy edit what is there, help with formatting, or add some images. This week’s articles are: Alis volat propriis and Fusitriton oregonensis. Aboutmovies 22:38, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

WPOR Collaboration of the Week[edit]

Greetings WikiProject Oregon employees. Well a big thanks to all those who helped improve Alis volat propriis and Fusitriton oregonensis last week. This week’s Stub improvement are: Government of Oregon which should be easy, and Miss Oregon. Again, no pressure to help with the collaboration, choose one, both, or neither. Also, feel free to opt out of the notifications at the new page dedicated to collaborative efforts at WPOR (newsletter is in R&D). Aboutmovies 19:06, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

WPOR Collaboration of the Week #3[edit]

Hello again WikiProject Oregon team members, its time for the next Collaboration of the Week. First a shout out to Sprkee for putting together some templates for this project. Now, in honor of Labor Day weekend and the outdoor nature of the activities that often accompany the three-day weekend, this week’s item is to de-redlink as many parks from the List of Oregon State Parks. Some may even by going to one of these places, a great opportunity to take a picture or two for an article. As always, participation is not required, though it is appreciated. And if you are caught, we will disavow any knowledge of your existence. Since we don’t want to waste any effort through duplication, please make a note on the talk page of which park article you are going to start. September WPOR Collaboration of the Week[edit]

First off, great job to all WikiProject Oregon folks for last week’s List of Oregon State Parks work. We pounded out six new state park articles: Sarah Helmick, Bald Peak, Bob Straub, Sumpter Valley Gold Dredge, Tumalo, and Peter Skene Ogden. Plus numerous other edits to improve the existing articles. As a reward, we are introducing the COTW award {{WPOR COTW award}}, and this time it goes to User:Woodstein52 for starting three of the articles.

On to this week. We are back to the usual two Top importance Stubs: Sunstone and Oregon, My Oregon. Both are stub pluses, so it shouldn’t take much to upgrade them both. Again to opt out or suggest future collaborative efforts click here. Good day! Aboutmovies 22:46, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

WPOR Collaboration: 09172007[edit]

All righty WPOR ladies and gentleman, great job last week with our state song and gemstone. I have bumped them up to Start class. I haven’t looked at the contributions, so the COTW award will be later. This week’s articles are Darlene Hooley, by special request, and another Top stub, our very own state rock, the Thunderegg. Yes, apparently we have a state rock and state gemstone. No word on whether there is a state stone too. Hooley basically needs some sources to make it to the next level. Again to opt out or suggest future collaborative efforts click here. In the words of Beaver Joe, whoop! Aboutmovies 18:16, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Fall WPOR COTW[edit]

Welcome to autumn and the weekly COTW news. Great job to those who helped out with last week’s articles: Darlene Hooley & Thunderegg. Both made great improvements. This week, something a little different. With fall upon us, the photo ops are going to be harder to get, so we have a photo request fulfillment drive. Take a look at the requested pictures for Oregon category or the graphics subproject for what’s needed. Then go take a picture, or search online for a free picture to upload (US gov sites are great and there are links available from the above links). If you fill a request, be sure to remove the request template from the article’s talk page. Our other item is another red link removal drive, this time on the flagship Oregon article. Like the state parks red link drive, try to coordinate on the talk page. Again to opt out or suggest future collaborative efforts click here. Aboutmovies 02:01, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Week 1 October WP:ORE COTW[edit]

I know everyone has been waiting anxiously for this week’s COTW, so here they are: Barlow Road and Columbia River Plateau. Both are almost Start class, just some formatting and referencing, plus a little expansion and they will be there!

As to last week, it is difficult to track the items we were working on, but I know some pictures were added and at least three red links were removed from Oregon, so thank you to all those who participated. The award winner will be GoodDamon for their creation of the Oregon Forest Resources Institute article. We have now worked through all the Top class stubs and are into the High class stubs. Again to opt out or suggest future collaborative efforts click here. Happy editing, and remember if you see a downed power line, don’t pick it up. Aboutmovies 20:23, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

WPOR CoTW: Don Schollander & Conde McCullough[edit]

Greetings WPOR world. Last week was great with the Barlow Road seeing lots of improvement, maybe even B class. Columbia River Plateau also saw some improvement, maybe enough to bump it to Start. On with the countdown, another two Stubs in the High category, both happen to be people: Don Schollander a multi-gold medalist; and then world-renowned bridge architect and all-around swell guy Conde McCullough. Schollander needs sources more than anything, and McCullough needs more of a bio, plus maybe a nice chart for the bridges with type/year/location/length. WikiOregon COTW[edit]

Greetings once again WikiProject Oregon members. Thank you to those who help out with improving Conde McCullough and Don Schollander last week. This week is a Stub break, with a Ref improvement drive for Oregon and a request for work on Portland Police Bureau. For the ref improvement, this means sourcing tagged statements and standardizing all existing citations, both of which are needed for GA and FA status. Collaboration of the Week[edit]

Howdy doody ya’ll WPOR poke, time for more COTW. Thanks for the work on Portland Police Bureau and improving the references at Oregon. WPOR's newest COTW[edit]

Thank you to all those editors who helped improve Cayuse War and Portland Trail Blazers last week as part of the Collaboration of the Week. They are looking much better. This week, with the election season over, we’ll tackle a request for Oregon Ballot Measure 37 (2004), which should have plenty of WP:RS available to work with on improvement. Your night shots[edit]

Hi Eric, I just realised those recent night-time FPC shots were both yours. First off, sorry they never made it, FWIW I thought they both showed you spent a lot of time and effort on them. I hope you don't mind a bit of unsolicited advice but I noticed they were both shot well after dark, which I think was their only real problem. If you shoot during what's sometimes called the blue hour, that small amount of extra pixel information in the both the sky and surroundings stops you getting so much noise and has the advantage of giving the sky a blue tone, which usually contrasts well with any artificial light in the frame. Dynamic range 'needs' shrink, as you very subtly 'fill in' the otherwise pitch dark areas with the remnants of daylight. It's a common enough technique (see the nighttime architectural FPs) and the only really tough bit is timing it right: unless you're in Greenland it's rarely an hour – more like 10 minutes – inbetween the end of twilight and the start of 'proper' night, much less in summer. There's a FPC nom up there now which didn't quite make it (taken a fraction too early) & which is what prompted me to drop you a line. Keep shooting :o) --mikaultalk 17:20, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
