Chronology
PredecessorMAZ-205

The MAZ-215 is a single-decker, articulated bus manufactured by Minsk Automobile Plant. It is a development of the MAZ-205 model.

Construction[edit]

The bus is completely low floor. One of the differences from the MAZ-205 model is the presence of five doors (in the most common configuration 215069) instead of four doors. The number of seats - 38 (there are options for 38, 39 and 40 seats), the nominal capacity - 170 or 183 people

MAZ-215 uses puller configuration. Engine is placed in front passenger compartment, which is why a small "hump" appeared on the roof of the front of the bus, where some of the equipment is located. Body parts are made of galvanized steel, aluminum and fiberglass panels. The bus is equipped with a Euro-5 diesel engine Mercedes-Benz OM 926LA with turbocharger and intercooler and automatic transmission ZF 6HP604C. The load on the front axle is 7000 kg, on the middle - 11500 kg, on the rear - 9500 kg. Gross weight - 28,000 kg, empty curb weight - 16,600 kg. Base - 5800 + 6862 mm. The suspension of all axles is dependent, pneumatic, two-cylinder. Tires 275/70R22.5. Turning radius is not more than 12.5 m. For a number of nodes and assemblies, the bus is unified with MAZ-203 and other second-generation buses. The maximum kinematic speed is 96 km/h. The mileage before the first overhaul (in the first category of operating conditions) is not less than 600,000 km, the engine resource is more than 1,500,000 km. There are two versions - 215069 and 215169 - with a different number of doors (4 and 5) and four options for arranging the seats in the cabin. Based on the bus, the MAZ-215T trolleybus was developed. Subsequently, the MAZ developed a model with a pushing arrangement of the engine (in the trailer) MAZ-216.

Operators[edit]

Five-door bus is widely used in Minsk and Gomel, several buses are operated in Baranovichi, Bobruisk, Brest, Pinsk and other Belarusian cities. Lots of buses were exported to the fleets of Mongolia (20 buses to Ulan Bator), Russia (St. Petersburg), Serbia (Belgrade), Ukraine (Kiev, Odessa, from the fall of 2019 - Mariupol).
