Rabbi Dr. Seth N. Grauer (born August 1978) is the Rosh Yeshiva and Head of School at the Bnei Akiva Schools of Toronto. As the only Modern Orthodox Jewish high schools in Toronto, Rabbi Grauer is one of the leaders of the Modern Orthodox Jewish movement in Toronto.

Education[edit]

After studying at Yeshivat Har Etzion (“Gush”) in Israel for two years, Rabbi Grauer received his B.A. in history (honours) from Yeshiva University and was a founding member of their varsity golf team. Rabbi Grauer received smicha from Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (RIETS) of Yeshiva University. He went on to receive his Doctorate in Education from the Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and Administration at Yeshiva University. He also earned a J.D. from Fordham Law School and served as editor of the Environmental Law Journal. Rabbi Grauer was trained in teacher mentorship and supervision through the Jewish New Teacher Project and has a certificate in Israel education from the Israel Center of Education. [1]

Career[edit]

Rabbi Grauer is currently the Rosh Yeshiva and Head of School at the Bnei Akiva Schools of Toronto, Ulpanat Orot and Yeshivat Or Chaim.[2] In this capacity, Rabbi Grauer oversees the academic and spiritual dual curriculum program leading to an Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

Rabbi Grauer also currently serves as a member of the Yeshivat Har Etzion Board of Directors and the Chair of their Rabbinic Committee.

Previous Roles

Before taking on his leadership role at the Bnei Akiva Schools of Toronto, Rabbi Grauer was the Assistant Principal at Yeshiva University High School for Girls (“Central”), a 300-student girls' high schoolin New York. Before this post, Rabbi Grauer served as an educator for 9 years at Ramaz Upper School in Manhattan, NY. As well, Rabbi Grauer has worked with teenagers at various summer camps in various leadership capacities, most recently serving as Camp Rabbi and Director of Education at Camp Lavi and Rosh Kollel and Head of Chinuch at Camp Moshava (Wild Rose).

Rabbi Grauer served for five years as the Associate Rabbi at the Fifth Avenue Synagogue in Manhattan.

Rabbi Grauer has also served as a Rabbinic Court Intern (summer) at the Beth Din of America and a Legal Intern (summer) at the New York State Supreme Court and the New York State Office of the Attorney General.[3]

Rabbi Grauer served as Director of Alumni Affairs for Yeshivat Har Etzion for nearly five years.

Awards and Recognitions[edit]

In 2008, Rabbi Grauer was honoured with the Grinspoon-Steinhardt Award for Jewish Education.[4]

In 2010, Rabbi Grauer was honoured as the Yeshivat Har Etzion Alumnus of the Year in 2010.[5][6]

Personal life[edit]

Rabbi Grauer currently lives with his wife, Leba, and 3 children, Yonina, Yosef and Gila in Toronto, Ontario.
