Albert Jónsson (Born 1952) is an Icelandic diplomat. From 2006 to 2009 he was the Icelandic ambassador in Washington DC.
Biography[edit]
Career[edit]
- 1978: Degree in History and Political Science from the University of Iceland.
- 1979: Master of International Relations, School of Economics and Political Science of London.
- 1980-1982: Researcher, Icelandic Commission on Security and International Affairs.
- 1983-2006: External Professor in International Politics at the University of Iceland.
- 1984-1987: Radio journalist for Iceland Broadcasting Service.
- 1987-1988: Television journalist for Iceland Broadcasting Service.
- 1988-1991: Executive Director, Icelandic Commission on Security and International Affairs.
- 1991-2004: Foreign Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister.
- 2004 -2006: Special Adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
- June to October 2006: Foreign Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister.
- From 2006 to 2009: Ambassador in Washington, DC.[2]
- 2009-2011: Consul General, Faeroe Islands.[3]
- 07 December 2011 to 09.2016 as Ambassador in Moscow.

Albert Jónsson completed a BA degree in History and Political Science from the University of Iceland and a M.Sc. degree in International Politics from the London School of Economics. Albert was for years a member of international politics at the University of Iceland and one of David Oddsson's chief advisors in foreign affairs.
He was Ambassador to Iceland for the Icelandic Foreign Ministry in Washington DC 2006-2009, Iceland's High Representative in the Faroe Islands 2009-2011 and Ambassador to Iceland in Moscow 2011-2016. Today, Albert is a foreign ambassador to the Department of Foreign Affairs in Iceland, who is in charge of international and security issues.[4]
