Samuel Valme(SAM-yoo-el VAL-may; born November 2, 1965) is an American community activist and a retired Master Sergeant (MSG) who served in the United States Army. A Haitian American, Valme was raised in the New York City, borough of Brooklyn, as the son of Haitian immigrants. After graduating from Manhattan Vocational Technical High School in Harlem, Valme joined the Army in 1983. During his military career, Valme entered the Army, volunteering for the Airborne Infantry, where he served as an Army Ranger with the 3rd Ranger Battalion at Fort Benning, Georgia and is listed in the “Ranger Walk” on the Ranger Memorial at Fort Benning.

Valme was born in Port-au-Prince, in 1965 and was raised in Brooklyn. His parents, Alexander and Lisa Valme, immigrated to the United States from Haiti. Valme was educated in the New York City public schools, and later graduating from Liberty University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. His further academic achievements include a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Conflict and Negotiation Management from Trident University International. He received his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from Walden University School of Public Policy and Administration with dual specializations in Public Management & Leadership and Local Government Management for Sustainable Communities.

Valme was a professional Soldier for 24 years, during which time he held numerous command and staff positions and rose to the rank of Master Sergeant. His last assignment, from May 1, 2004, to July 30, 2007, was as the Senior Retention and Transition Director a senior military position in the Army Reserve Retention and Transition Division (AR-RTD). During this time, he was widely regarded as an expert on military enlistment and reenlistment matters and consequently, selected to revise, staffed and published the Army Reserve Regulation for Retention and Transition Programs, AR-140, in March 2006.

Military career

Valme was a professional soldier for 24 years, holding numerous training and staff positions and rising to the rank of MSG. He is the graduate of Class 55 of the United States Sergeants Major’s Academy (USASMA).

Valme’s military education includes the Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer’s Course, Advance Noncommissioned Officer’s Course, and the Sergeants Major Academy.

Life after Military service

Following his military retirement, Valme pursued his Doctoral degree from Walden University School of Public Policy and Administration with dual specializations in Public Management & Leadership and Local Government Management for Sustainable Communities. Valme finished his dissertation entitled "The Power of Community Activism: How Three Activism Groups Influence Governance and Voter Participation in Henry County Georgia.”
