User:Frostly/The quest for a one-letter Wikimedia domain name

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

w.wiki is cool, but a one-letter shortcut[1] is even cooler 😎

Good options include:

  • .com and .net TLDs are unavailable 🚫
  • w.org is already taken by WordPress 💔
  • w.page is a good option ("Wikipedia page")! It's a bit long, though 📜
    • However, it's only $1,768.66 USD a year, according to Namecheap! 💰
  • w.ac and w.co are available and probably the best options 🎉
    • w.ac could symbolize "Wikimedia: [it's] About Community!" 👯
    • .co could symbolize "community o'clock" ⏰
    • .ac is priced at 5 BTC or ~17K USD at time of writing
    • .co is priced in the "low seven figures" USD (1+ million)
      • It's a lot of 💸, but surprisingly less than expected

What does this contribute to the community? Nothing! It'd just be fun to have a supershort URL 🔗 someday.

  1. ^ with a TLD that is two letters long instead of four
