Gynaecologist is a physician who practices Gynaecology as profession. A Gynaecologist offers specialised services in health issues relating to reproductive system,sex based issues,vaginal infections in addition to performing diagnosis,fertility treatments,disease and any cancers relating to ovaries and pelvic areas. A consultation with Gynaecologist can be helpful during General check up,Pelvic area discomfort, concerns to women during pregnancy or periods,notice of unusual discharge.

Meaning[edit]

A Gynaecologist has specialised and practices reproductive health in females[1]. The health issues may be related to bleeding,cramps or any other related issues[2].

Activities[edit]

Gynaecologist performs following activities[3][1]:

  • Offers services in sexual and reproductive health in pelvic tests,Pap tests,screenings for cancer and vaginal infections related test and treatments among others.
  • Perform diagnosis and treatment for disorders in reproductive system called endometriosis,fertility issues,cysts in Ovaries and pains in pelvic areas.
  • Treating patients with cancer in ovaries,cervical or reproductive system.
  • Offering services during pregnancy and birth of child.

Qualification and Training[edit]

A Gynaecologist needs to complete education in female reproductive system and related training in following areas before starting the practice[4][1]:

  • A four year degree in medicine in specialised branch from a recognised college or university.
  • Residency for four years.
  • Completion of written test based qualification exam.
  • Requisite experience in patient care in documentation.
  • Qualification in oral test based certification exam.

  • Basic invasive surgery.
