LNJN National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Sciences is an Indian Govt. institute responsible for teaching criminology and Forensic sciences. It was established by Govt. of India in pursuant to resolutions taken at UNESCO Symposium (London, 1955) that has suggested to include "Criminology' and 'Forensic Science' in general stream of university education. So far, more than 34,000 officers from police and civil administration, prosecution, customs, defense, judiciary and forensic science laboratories have attended specialized courses.

The institute came into existence in 1972 after expert committee which was set up by University Grants Commission to look into the establishment of institute of such kind submitted its suggestions. At first, it started imparting 2 training courses for senior officers of criminal justice system.In 1976, the institute became and independent instution under Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt of India. The institute was upgraded as national institute in 1991 and in 2003, the institute was renamed after Lok nayak Jayaprakash Narayan. Since 2004, the institute has started master courses in Criminology and Forensic sciences.[1]
