Etymology[edit]
Topography[edit]
Nagzira wildlife sanctuary is located in the Tirora Range of Bhandara Forest Division of Maharashtra.[1] Sanctuary is spread over 136.14 sq.km and has two perennial tanks. These two tanks are main source of water for animals and also adds to the beauty.[2] Over 30000 tourist visit Nagzira every year.[3] There is strong demand from conservationists to declare Nagzira as tiger reserve as it has 18-20 tiger population.[4]
Flora and Fauna[edit]
This sanctuary has a number of fish, 34 species of mammals, 166 species of birds, 36 species of reptiles and four species of amphibians.[5] The invertebrate fauna includes, besides a number of insects and ant species. Wild animals found here are the tiger, bison, sambar, nilgai, chital, wild boar, sloth bear and wild dog. There are also ten tigers, panthers and one elephant.[5] The nearest airport is Nagpur (~120 km). Close by rail stations are Nagpur (~120 km), Gondia (~45 km) and Bhandara (~75 km).
