The Count of Edessa was the ruler of one of the Crusader states of the 12th century. The title was created when Baldwin of Boulogne took over the Principality of Edessa in 1098, renaming it the County of Edessa. The County was lost to Nur ad-Din and the last Count captured in 1150 and died in 1159.[1]
