Venues of Bullying in Schools[edit]

Bullying can occur in many locations, but the most relevant and one that is most common is when it is done in an educational structure. Schools see the most bullying because it is where kids spend most of their day. Also, the reason why bullying is so relevant in schools is because of the supervision they are not receiving.According to the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics, 47% of the bullying that occurs in schools occurs in hallways and stairways. [1] the reason so much bullying occurs in these locations is because that is where students spend most of their time when they are not in a classroom. It is also the place where there is less supervision from teachers or other forms of faculty. [2] Another key location where bullying occurs is bus stops or on the bus ride to and from school. Kids, especially those in high school never view the bus driver as a person with authority so they take advantage of the situation. [3]

Though it may not be a physical location, social media could be a very relevant venue in where bullying occurs. Since so many children especially teenagers are on social media cites meeting new people, they are more vulnerable to violence or negative comments that could affect them mentally and emotionally. According to Pew Research Center's internet & American Life Project, 41% of teens reported negative experiences online. [4] According to dosomething.org 81% of young people think that bullying online is easier to get away with than at school. [5] Though not physical, Social Media is a very large contributor to bullying since it is easier for people to insult other people without legitimate confrontation.

The real question many specialist have had is how to make schools safer for all students to go comfortably. The main solution would be to educate. If students are more aware and respectful towards the people around them then they will learn to have more mutual respect towards each other. Monitoring school 'hot zones' where bullying occurs like hallways and bathrooms could prevent bullying from happening. [6] If these areas are supervised, then the possibility of bullying decreases.
