About Me

I am a published poet and essayist. (My website is "http://home.ca.inter.net/~grantsky/default.html". It contains over 50 poems and 60 essays and pieces of which I am proud.) I am a proud and enthusiastic believer in Wikipedia, retired in Toronto, Canada. I am interested in and read widely on a multitude of subjects, especially literature, movies, actors, writers, newspapers, magazines and television shows. I admire deeply Shakespeare and Yeats, am a longtime student of philosophy, a comic-books and science-fiction fan, and interested in history, economics and music, especially classical and rock.

My Work on Wikipedia

I contribute to the English-language version, chiefly by copy-editing: hundreds of minor edits improving punctuation, spelling and grammar. My purpose is nearly always clarification. Very occasionally, I add style. Sometimes I add whole words to articles for the same reasons. Occasionally I get involved with discussions on talk pages, and hope eventually to contribute greatly to an article. I am a minor contributor to the Wikipedia community, but I enjoy the work and admire the collective result.

I champion a very open, inclusive, readable Wikipedia. I was delighted to discover in January 2009 that the article on Sonia Greene, the wife of H. P. Lovecraft, had been reinstated. Her character was interesting, particularly concerning how it reflects on Lovecraft; to eliminate her article would be a loss to the community.

Significant Article Contributions

In the article on Franz Liszt I tried to convert passages of pseudo-English to real English. I added sentences to the article on Conrad Black, the Canadian-born newspaper publisher; some of my words survived. I also corrected minor mistakes in the Black article (I have written an article on Black on my own website -- which some found useful) and requested proof of one of the contentions about him in Wikipedia's article. I started an article on a philosopher once, but it was rightly deleted for the obscurity of the person and matters discussed.
