Background[edit]

Delegates and FLC[edit]

Featured list candidates (commonly referred to as FLC) is the process through which lists of high quality reach the status of Featured List. Similar to Featured article candidates, FLC is a consensus-based process where users evaluate the quality of lists against the featured list criteria and thus support or oppose their promotion. Before supporting or opposing a list, the reviewers usually hold a lenghty and detailed communication with the nominator(s), which is(are) usually the major contributor(s) to a list, to solve all issues a list could have before becoming featured. The process was established in 2004 and has produced more than 3,000 featured lists since then.

The responsibility to evaluate consensus and, according to the case and their judgement, promote or archive a nomination lies in the shoulders of the directors and the delegates. They are also tasked with keeping order and maintenance of all FLC pages and subpages. They also take care of the lists nominated to have their featured status removed (better known as Featured list removal candidates, or FLRC), as well as to report new featured lists at Wikipedia:Goings-on and Template:Announcements/New featured content, among others. The director also has the responsibility of scheduling Today's featured lists, which appear every monday on the Main Page.

Why elections[edit]

Usually, delegates are appointed after users interested in becoming delegates approach any current delegate or director to consider their name for the job. If the delegate/director considers that the user is suitable for the responsibility, a community discussion is held (usually at WT:FLC) to evaluate what the community thinks of the candidate. The latest users to be appointed this way were Hahc21 (talk · contribs) and NapHit (talk · contribs). However, after the recent resignation of Dabomb87 (talk · contribs) and The Rambling Man (talk · contribs), and the long-term unavailability of NapHit, the FLC team has been left crippled, with only Hahc21 and Giants2008 (talk · contribs) actively serving. After discussion at the FLC talk page, the idea to hold an election was agreed to select at least two new users to join Hahc21 and Giants2008 on all the duties of FLC.
