The Internets Celebrities are Brooklyn-based filmmakers Dallas Penn, Rafi Kam, and Casimir Nozkowski. The "wisecracking social critics"^[1] produces short, guerrilla-style web films that combine documentary and satire.

Background[edit]

In April 2006, blogger Dallas Penn authored an instructional post on how to order a cheaper, ersatz Big Mac off the dollar menu at McDonald's.^[2] The post was picked up by several blogs and eventually dubbed "The Ghetto Big Mac."^[3] Rafi Kam, of hip-hop blog ohword.com, jokingly suggested making a YouTube video about the sandwich.^[4] Kam's high school friend Casimir Nozkowski, a filmmaker who had worked on music videos and promotional shorts for cable, including AMC's Mad Men, approached Kam, convincing him to make the video and offering his services. Filmed guerilla-style at a McDonald's in Williamsburg, the film was featured on the front pages of both YouTube and MySpace and has garnered over one million views to date.^[1]

Following Ghetto Big Mac's success, the group continued to collaborate, producing several films and in 2007 dubbing themselves the Internets Celebrities.^[1]

Cereal is Dope! (uploaded January 3, 2008) takes a look at sugary breakfast cereals.
Urine Nation (uploaded January 28, 2008) explores both legal and illegal options for relieving oneself in New York City.
Checkmate (uploaded May 21, 2008) compares the practices of small check-cashing businesses and retail banks.
Futuristic Brunch (uploaded July 9, 2008) has the Internets Celebrities revisiting McDonald's, this time ordering and combining items from both the regular and breakfast menus.
Stadium Status (uploaded June 2, 2010) examines new sports stadiums, including Citi Field and the new Yankee Stadium, and their cost to the communities in which they're built and to taxpayers.

The Internets Celebrities' were interviewed by former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer on MSNBC on June 2, 2010.^[5]
They were interviewed by WNYC's Brian Lehrer in June 2008.^[6]
The Internets Celebrities' film Bodega featured on CNN Headline's News to Me program ^[7]
Defunct film web site the Daily Reel paid the Internets Celebrities to cover the 2007 Sundance Film Festival.^[1]
Their films have been viewed over three million times on YouTube, Vimeo, and MySpace.
