Proposed description

When Football Banned Women is a 2017 documentary film directed by Kelly Close. It follows the story of the Dick Kerr’s Ladies Football team, and their rise to prominence during the First World War.  The documentary is presented by Clare Balding, and stars historians who discuss the response of the Football association to the women game, overlaid by photographic stills and archived footage.

The documentary focuses on the shift in popularity of Women’s football, as it continues to be on the rise in prominence today. It reveals that historically Women’s football had a bigger following, and discusses the contributing factors to its fall in popularity. The focus is largely on the Dick Kerr’s Ladies football club, from a historical perspective and applies this to the football clubs today, and the changing attitude of the Football Association.
