Brandon Beachy [1](born September 3, 1986) is a professional baseball pitcher who plays for the Atlanta Braves organization. Listed at 6' 3", 215 lb., Beachy bats right-handed and throws right-handed. He was born in Kokomo, Indiana.

He was signed by the Braves as an undrafted free agent in 2009, and played for the Myrtle Beach (S.C.) Pelicans of the Class A advanced Carolina League during most of the 2009 season.

High School and College[edit]

Beachy helped lead the Northwestern Senior High School baseball team to Indiana's 2004-2005 class AA state championship game. Afterwords, he was presented with the prestigious IHSAA Mental Attitude Award.[2] After high school, Beachy attended Indiana Wesleyan University, where he played third base and first base, along with doing some pitching.

Minor leagues[edit]

Beachy was unselected in the 2008 major league draft following his junior year of college, but was later signed by the Atlanta Braves as an undrafted free agent.[3]

Beachy compiled a 4-3 record with one save and a 3.87 ERA in 76 2/3 innings of work spread over 35 appearances and three different teams in 2009. He struck out 64 batters and walked only 19. Most of Beachy's time was spent with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans of the Class A advanced Carolina League.[4]

Currently, Beachy is one of six pitchers taking part in a spring mini-camp in which some of the Braves’ top minor leaguers take turns serving as backups for major league players in spring training games. Beachy is the youngest minor leaguer in the mini-camp.[5]

Beachy is a contender for a spot at the Double A or Triple A level for the 2010 season, and expects to learn his assignment at the end of spring training.[6]
