Terri Givens (born 1964) is an internationally recognized author and political scientist, most recently of the books Radical Empathy: Finding a Path to Bridging Racial Divides (2021) and The Roots of Racism: The Politics of White Supremacy in the US and Europe (2022). [1] Dr. Givens is currently a full professor at McGill University where she is leading an effort to hire and retain more Black professors.'”[2]

Research and service[edit]

Terri Givens' research has focused on immigration politics and antidiscrimination policy at the national level in Britain, France and Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, policy developments at the European Union level.[3][4]

Dr. Givens was the founding director of the Center for European Studies at the University of Texas at Austin and led the university’s internationalization efforts in Mexico and Latin America as Vice Provost. As Provost at Menlo College, Givens led faculty and staff in developing programs for first generation students, updating curriculum and developing the infrastructure for new evidence-based assessment and institutional effectiveness. She has forged ties with community organizations that focus on college opportunities for disadvantaged youth and diversity in Silicon Valley. [5]
