Founder Jessie McGurie Dent – (Died 1948) Was the first Recording Secretary of Alpha Chapter. She was a native Texan whose contributions to the Galveston community earned her great recognition. She was instrumental in integrating the Galveston Public School System. Upon her death in 1948, the city recognized her contributions by placing her portrait on permanent display in the Texas Cultural Archives.
