Background[edit]

Naomi Sewell Richardson was born September 24, 1892 in Lincoln University, Pennsylvania to Perry W. Sewell Richardson and Florence Snowden Sewell where her father was a Theology student at Lincoln University.

Naomi Sewell Richardson was the last surviving Founder of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. when she died on August 5, 1993. (page 29 of ALOQD)

On September 1, 1920 Naomi Sewell Richardson married Clarence Richardson who was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Naomi and Clarence Richardson were married for 27 years.


Education[edit]

Naomi Sewell Richardson was the first Black graduate of Washingtonville High School in Washingtonville, New York in 1910. In the Fall of 1910 Naomi Sewell Richardson enrolled in Howard University. In 1914 Naomi Sewell Richardson graduated from Howard University.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.[edit]

Naomi Sewell Richardson was one of the Founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Soror Richardson was present at the meeting of Alpha chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority in the Fall of 1912.

Naomi Sewell Richardson participated in the 50th and 75th anniversary celebrations of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.


Career[edit]

Naomi Sewell Richardson began her teaching career in East St. Louis, Illinois.
