Marek Hnila[edit]

Marek Hnila (born May 31, 1995, in Šternberk) is a Czech writer, photographer, journalist, and publisher. He is the founder of a cultural association dedicated to "pure culture" or lartpourlartism.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Hnila began writing short stories during his time at a secondary school in Bruntál. His first notable work, a short story titled "The Price," was later published as an e-book in collaboration with the Municipal Library in Prague, becoming one of the top 10 most popular titles offered by the library in 2014.

Career[edit]

In 2017, Hnila founded his own publishing house and published his first printed book, "Little Brother." His approach to publishing was unconventional, often critiquing book distributors for undermining the significance of belles-lettres in literature. He also refused to publish other authors' works, focusing solely on his own projects.

His book "Between Good and Evil," a collection of three novellas and a short story, was published in 2018. This publication solidified the philosophy of his writing and his publishing house. During this period, Hnila also worked as a photographer at the Institute of Forensic Medicine, which influenced his subsequent works.

Personal Life[edit]

Hnila's work on his third book was interrupted by news of his grandfather's illness, leading him to return to Šternberk. The experience with his grandfather influenced his book "Between You and Me," completed in 2021 after his grandfather's passing.
