Bradshaw Animal Shelter of Sacramento County black cats are referred to as "Choco Verandas." This name was created by volunteer Alyssa Gillis as part of a high school project to see if the rebranding of black cats affects their adoption rate. "Choco" refers to chocolate, "Veranda" refers to coffee.

The first annual Choco Veranda Adoption Event was held at Bradshaw Shelter on August 29-30 during which 25 Choco Verandas were adopted under the promotional pricing of one CV for $15, two CV's for $20. Guests celebrated Choco Verandas with lots of coffee, chocolate, raffle baskets featuring coffee, chocolate, and CVs, and a scavenger hunt. Staff and volunteers wore black "Ask me about my Choco Veranda." T-shirts that were also available for purchase for $15.

A Choco Veranda Royal Court was anointed featuring King Oreo, Queen Vanessa, and many Princesses, Dukes, Duchesses, and the like.
