Whilst the stub article already features a lead section, much of the information within it is out of date, citing information from 2013, also it contains contradictory statements, as such the lead section will be updated to bring it up to date.

Australian whisky has a long history, dating back to colonial times.  Within the last 20 years, there has been a massive revival of craft whisky distilling within Australia, and Australian whiskeys have won numerous global awards and accolades, there is a rich history surrounding distilling in Australia, as well as the numerous whisky distilleries that operate today.  The whisky industry also a key role in tourism, especially in places like Tasmania, and is a growing part of that sector.  As such there is clearly a great deal of public interest, and sufficient evidence to warrant expanding the Wikipedia stub for Australian whisky
