Malabar Gold and Diamonds is the flagship company of Malabar Group, an Indian business group established in 1993. The group has businesses including real estate and retail. Apart from the home market in India, their showrooms are spread across Singapore, Malaysia, UAE, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

In April 2012, Ahammed hired global branding agency Brand Union to develop a corporate image to make a mark in the overseas market.^[1],^[2]. In April 2013, Malabar Gold and Diamonds signed Indian movie actress Kareena Kapoor as their brand ambassador.^[3]. In April 2018, Malabar Gold & Diamonds today signed Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar as its brand ambassador, making it the first commercial endorsement deal for the Miss World 2017. ^[4]

Controversy[edit]

In 2016, a fake news campaign ^[5], ^[6] with a photograph of a cake cutting event alleged that the brand was celebrating Pakistan national day was circulated on social media and WhatsApp in India. This cake cutting event was not connected with the group. The image is that of a celebration event done by another company based out of Middle East and has no relation with Malabar Gold and Diamonds. One person was arrested in Dubai in connection with running a malicious social media campaign with forged images of Malabar Gold and Diamonds.
